These moments continue on an annual basis with each new WrestleMania, but with WWE Legends of WrestleMania, fans both new and familiar with action in the squared circle can not only experience the defining moments and characters of classic matches from the eighties and nineties, but can also change history by reliving, rewriting or redefining them. In WrestleMania Tour Mode players are given a choice of how they want to experience the events of the first 15 WrestleManias. After a match is selected a small video plays detailing the history of the feud between the combatants and the outcome of the match at hand. You can choose to find again the match – play as the historic victor and win it exactly as it happened; rewrite the match – play as the historic loser and change history by winning it; or redefine the match – fight owing to an entirely new series of elements introduced into the match and defeat your opponent. Regardless of your choice you will be fed a series of objectives. Completion of these objectives earns players points, which contribute to the various PSN trophies accessible owing to the game. Players can also ignore the objectives and win the matches by no matter what means available. Victory by either means will unlock the next match in the series. This game reminds me of the movie “The Hulk”. There was alot of hype and anticipation but once you play it, you found that it sucks. The control stylishness is dreadful. The character models are too unrealistically huge. The game modes are barron. THQ wanted to keep this game OLD SCHOOL and they did just that. I’m a fan from that era I like the amount of legends this game has and that you can import the smackdown roster, but we have evolved from the standard, mindless button mashing sports meeting from that era too. Hopefully they can reinvent this game like they reinvented “The Incredible Hulk” and bring us something that is worth the 60 dollars they sell it for.

I will start by saying that I grew up watching WWF. I had everything possible: action figures (pre 1980’s and up), Wrestling Buddies, trading cards…we rented every possible WWF match. I was pretty much obsessed to say the least. I even wrote Hulk Hogan when Earthquake “broke his ribs”. From a video game stand point, I have owned nearly every title out there…
So…
When I heard about this game being released I was super excited. I went down to Best Buy and selected it up. I figured they must have improved the former release of Legends of Wrestling since THQ had it now. I have since played it for the last week and here is the final verdict:
It is a semi pleasant visual experience that loses appeal after about 20 minutes.
The breakdown.
The graphics are splendid, wrestlers are pretty accurate in costume. But, they are not accurate in body. THQ chose to “beef” everyone up instead of giving the wrestlers their natural build. Basically everyone is buff. When the wrestlers penetrate the ring, nostalgic text pops up really giving the feel of ancient 80’s and early 90’s wrestling. Wrestlers come out to their original theme songs and fans react in view of that (booing when heels come out, cheering for the “excellent guys”) all the meanwhile “The Fink” is announcing. If the game were based on this 1 minute span of the game it would have 5 stars all the way.
All of the venues that are available are pretty accurate depictions of the venues the superstars wrestled in…but to me this isn’t super vital but a cool feature none the less.
Now onto the reason the game is not so splendid…
The controlling, control scheme and smoothness of the game just plain suck. There is no way that anyone who has played this game could ever legitimately give it 5 stars. I didn’t find the control scheme as hard as some have stated, but for the option of moves available…the way the moves are set up…it is a bit much. If the scheme were simpler and more fluid, it would offset the lack of moves…but it is not set up that way. I played a friend who just sat there and punched me with 2 moves the whole time and pinned me the first time I fell down. Really now? Matches are small…button mashing at best.
There is a feature in the game…a BIG feature that I found rather irritating. As you are playing, a series of button commands flash on the screen. As these buttons appear, you push them to continue a sequence of moves for your player. Literally X flashes on the screen you press X, your wrestler starts a go, then O pops up, you press O and so on. The same buttons appear to reverse your opponents moves. Really quite irritating and kind of ruins the game. I really never got the point of why THQ did this.
THQ needs to get back to the drawing penetrate, this game just feels rushed. Aside from the whole gameplay issue, it lacks at recreating these legends and matchups. For example, you can slam Andre the Giant at anytime in the game. Small things like this just kill the game in my opinion! Wouldn’t it be splendid to play as Hulk Hogan and in fact build up your potential during an entire match JUST to get the ONE moment to slam Andre?!
There are a reasonable amount of cool visuals, but other than that there is not much to offer here. If you download a demo, you don’t get the full experience of this visual aspect, but you will get to see how the moves work, and TRUST ME…the way you play in the demo will be exactly the way you play in the game.
Finally, the icing on the cake: No Macho Man Randy Savage.
I reflect you should rent this game, get in your time machine for a couple days…find again the few glorious moments the game has to offer and be thankful you saved $52.

Im selling it on here at $29.99. Its not as excellent like Smackdown vs RAW 09. I only played it once and im very disapointed.

As soon as I read that Macho Man Savage and Mick Foley weren’t gonna be in the game, they had 2 strikes against them. Then I downloaded the playable demo and tried it. Very disapointing!! The movements are sluggish, and just not as well place together as the Raw v Smackdown sports meeting. Splendid roster, for the most part, but it doesn’t have the legendary feel I expected. Small things like Andre the Giant waving to the crowd while they boo him are small examples of the realism the game lacks. Hopefully, there’s a pt. 2 to this game in another year that’s better.

I dig the hell out of this game. The controls are pretty tough to master but by and large it is a excellent game. If you can get over the controls being hard, and not be disgruntled that its not super simple to win a match then you should get this game. Excellent game I say!
