War Of The Monsters is an all-out 3D action game where you get to beat up on everyone and everything around you — you’re a hundred-foot monster destroying cities to prove your supremacy! Multiple game modes, splendid graphics and a fun sci-fi tale — all that plus massive destruction as you try to win the War Of The Monsters!Amazon.com
At first look, it’s simple to get excited about War of the Monsters–it has colossal mutated beasts fighting each other in various dreary cityscapes, and it’s all wrapped in the campy confines of ’50s sci-fi and horror flicks. But after a few go-rounds, the game’s frustrating controls and limited replay regard may leave you feeling flat.
As the game’s social class tale goes, the monsters were spawned from radiation spilled from downed UFOs that were thwarted in their plans to take over Earth. Cities everywhere are now powerless to stop the rampaging savages, which include a King Kong rip-off named Congar and the Godzilla-inspired Togera, to name just two. The game is all about the thrill of bashing the other guy senseless in an unrelenting rampage that would leave city planners everywhere shaking in dread. The fighting is fierce and brutal–monsters are sent hurtling owing to the air with a variety of multi-hit combos; entire buildings are crumbled by either throwing your opponent into them or by an errant punch; cars, buses, radio antennae, steel pipes, and other objects are selected up and thrust into monster flesh. One can even hear the sound of tiny human bodies being squished underfoot.
Unfortunately, War of the Monsters seems to have a mind of its own at times since monsters are inexplicably hard to control. Things are swell one moment as you’re zeroing in for the kill but the next you’re swaying side to side like a punch-drunk fool. The controls are frustratingly unresponsive when your monster gets stuck in a corner or pinned against a wall. And be prepared to hit the reset button several times, as the game tends to freeze quite often when paused. –Larry White
Pros:
- Satisfyingly brutal fighting action
- Well-done look and feel
Cons:
- Unresponsive controls
- Limited replay regard
- Fights devolve into button-mashing frenzy

Incog was in production of this game, and right, this game does have some excellent graphics. Right, the game includes several different monsters with different abilities. But, many faults lie in this game. The release-player is dull and tedious, where the computer AI is cheap and very cheap. Right, this cheapness may work in Twisted Metal: Black in release-player, but then again, you have shields that surround the car as you escape whereas in this you don’t. You can get stabbed in the back quite frequently with an antenna. In terms of multiplayer, it’s okay, but then again, Twisted Metal: Black is far better. By and large, this game is a weekend rental at best. Incog, please stick with Twisted Metal for the sake of your fans!

Don’t be mislead. Most of these reviews are from the demo. The actual game is HORRIBLE. First of all, you always have to fight at least two other monsters. This may sound cool, but only if you delight in getting hit in the back by an opponent you can’t see. And I’m not talking about sometimes, turn the difficulty up and get impaled (during which you can’t attack) EVERY 5 seconds if not more. And if you can in fact fight without being interupted by exploding fuel tanks to the back of the head and and what not, then you’ll realize this game is not anything more than square, triange, and do again. And the A.I is retarded at fighting, in a one on one at highest difficulty all you have to do is attack and you win. Their only chance for winning is from cheap shots and life renaissance/cowardly flees. And when you do get one of your opponents to low life, he runs away and fully recovers while you take various projectiles in the back by the opponent you can’t see while chasing the fleeing coward. Don’t get me incorrect, this is a splendid thought, but Incog. butchered it. Do yourself a favor and rent it first. But who knows, you non-gaming RPG fans might like the incredibly repetitive moves and non-fighting in this fighting game. I’m sure glad I didn’t buy this from playing the demo; Otherwise I might firebomb Incog. Inc. Oh, and just for the record; “Best game EVER”, is being thrown around WAY too loosely nowadays.

Maybe everybody else is playing a really different game then me because I found War of the Monsters to be extremely frustrating and a huge letdown. I am a huge fan of Twisted Metal Black (both sports meeting are developed by Incog), so I was counting the days for this game to be available, anticipating a game that I couldn’t place down. I have beaten the game with two of the characters and really have no interest in continuing. The controls are overly unadorned, two buttons for attacks and the ability to throw objects is at first a tad fun and fascinating, but quickly becomes dull. The attacks lack the variety and fun of Twisted Metal Black, which are at first hard to learn but tremendously entertaining when mastered. I wish they would have somehow incorporated TMB’s scrolling and choosing of weapons to use (should I blast him with Zoomy or use Environmental and have the dirigible zap him?) Even the monsters special attacks are [weak]. No where near the creativity and fun of Sweettooth’s special attack. WOTM environments are okay but not as large & complex or fascinating as TMB. The camera angles are INCREDIBLY frustrating, I dont even know where to start when it comes to complaining about the camera angles. And the gameplay becomes monotonous and tedious after a days playing. I guess it comes down to expectations. It’s a decent game if you’re not expecting much, but if you’re hoping for a masterpiece like TMB, prepare to be let down. Incog should be ashamed of themselves (and give me my cash back).

Being a huge fan of Twisted Metal Black, I could not wait to buy and play War of the Monsters (both sports meeting are made by Incog). I was ready for another highly creative and fun game that I could not place down. Boy was I disappointed. The controls are frustrating, the camera angles are EXTREMELY frustrating and perplexing. Two buttons are used for attacking and your monster has the ability to grab various objects and use them either to throw or club an opponent, which is at first fascinating, but soon becomes dull. I was hoping that the game would somehow incorporate the TMB’s scrolling of various weapons (do I want to blast the enemy with zoomy or use environmental to zap him with a dirigible?) but I found the attacks and fighting aspect of the game to be dull and routine. Even the monsters super attacks are uncreative and bland (where is the creative attacks like SweetTooth’s Special Attack?)The environments are cool, but not as large, fascinating, or temperamental as TMB. The gameplay quickly becomes monotonous and routine. The bottom line is that it contains none of the fun elements that Incog’s previous game, Twisted Metal Black had, and I found myself bored with it after a day and a half of playing.
