This is quite possibly the lamest game I’ve played for all the hype surrounding. As mentioned already, the graphics look like they came directly from the 90’s. The player creator is also very weak. It looks like a family reunion with a bunch of inbreds. Every male player in the amateur mode has the same basic facial structure and droopy, sad looking eyes. There appears to be no difficulty settings. I have played my way owing to 4 singles and 4 doubles tournaments without loosing a point, hitting the ball out or into the net (dull!!!). Although Top Spin 3 has it’s challenges, it is light years ahead of Virtua Tennis 2009 in graphics, game play, player creation, tournament mode, etc.
Save your cash and rent the game first. If you don’t get completely bored with it in a few hours, then you’re not looking for a challenging game.

I selected it up for just twenty bucks on a website and from that point of view, I’m satisfied with the game. Decent game play, decent graphics. One thing that sucks is the AI. For some inexplicable reason, it really downgrades my shots when playing against certain opponents and that too is random. In world tour, I can beat a 40th ranked player hands down but the next game against a 46th ranked player, I lose miserably. The AI just slows down every shot of mine and makes my running alacrity low while endowing the opponent with huge potential – all my shots which will sit up and beg to be whacked. This is really not to be expected. Also, the lobbing needs to be improved and so also the constant diving for shots within reach and consequently returning them weakly. Hope they will iron out all these in the next release.

Virtua Tennis 2009 is my first tennis video-game. I like it, but it could greatly benefit from more levels of difficulty, so that higher levels could be more realistic and dificult.

The game is excellent and if you’re a tennis fan you’ll delight in it. You can be Federer, Nadal, Roddick etc. IF you only play against the computer its not much of a challenge; particularly the world tour mode though that is fun anyway. Arcade mode on hard is nearly impossible to beat. My main criticsm of the game is that when you play arcade match you end up playing to much against the Nalbandians, Deavid Ferrers and Juan Carlos Ferrors and not enough against Blake, Roddick, Djokovic, Nadal, Murray etc.

I like this game, but I was expecting a small bit more. The graphics aren’t that impressive and the career takes way too long to advance to a higher rank. Every time you win a tournament, you go up about 4 or 5 spots in the status system. Playing online is very fun. That is what makes this game better than the past tennis sports meeting. The most irritating thing about the game is the size of the ball. During the replays the ball looks ridiculously huge. During play it isn’t noticable. It’s worth buying even with these small disappointments.
