Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense
Editorial Review
Looking for some excellent car combat? Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense introduces Dreamcast owners to their first vehicular combat game, and it’s a worthy debut at that. Treacherous moving options include futuristic cars and ’70s relics, among other eclectic offerings. Each vehicle has a special weapon, and players can pick up these weapons, by the side of with napalm, missiles, shields, and tire add-ons on each of the game’s eight levels.
Taking place in the late 1970s (where the series debut, Vigilante 8, left off), two ex-Vigilantes–Convoy and Houston–have been kidnapped. Will their friends be able to save them? There are also copious other subplots, including an escaped space chimp that chases an alien garbage man and a cybercop chase involving an evil oil baron.
Quest mode offers a unique tale for each character. There are multiple endings to learn as well as multiple vehicles waiting to be unlocked upon completion of each level’s three objectives. Vigilante 8: Second Offense features an arcade mode, a survival mode, and a multiplayer mode, where up to four friends can compete. –Robb Guido
Pros:
- Same homicidal driving action from PlayStation version
- Impressive graphics
Cons:
- Control is more slippery than in the PlayStation version

I am an avid video gamer and there are lots of sports meeting that I like, but this is certainly not one of them. I thought that the first game was tons better. 2nd Offence is so much distress to control the vehicles, that to be honest, it’s not really worth it. The graphics just gave me a headache. The only reason why I have this game is that I was able to get it at a honest cash off. Please, if you have any sense, don’t go near this…..It really is terrible!!

In the first ten minutes when I played Vigilante 8 2nd offense, I thought I was playing the original Vigilante 8 on PS. Although the fun factor is still there, I am disappoint with the control on DC version. There are no enough buttons on DC controller to rotate the camera view angle. The graphic is also substadard compare to Soul Calibur. The game looked like was rushed to the market without taking adventage of DC’s potential. Buttom line: if you have the Vigilante 8 on PS, skip Vigilante 8 2nd on DC.

… First of all the play control can get really irritating because it’s slippery. Second the graphics are better than the ps and n64 versions but there not even close to Dreamcast’s full potential. Third the mission objectives are really pointless. Don’t buy it or rent it.

i dont agree with the other reviews. i was very dissapointed when i bought this game. although, if u have never played any vigilante 8 sports meeting on any platforms this game is a MUST buy. but i dont recomend it to people that have no friends. this is possibly 1 of the best multiplayer sports meeting on dreamcast. i have played v8 on n64 & ps. n64 has best versions. ps version [was terrible]. dreamcast has best graphics (only the movies after u beat level, original gameplay graphics blow chunks). if u have a n64 and a dreamcast buy the 64 game cuz dreamcast rushed this game into the market. i cant rate this game less than 3 stars cuz vigilante 8 is the best car combat game EVER. i just expected alot more (although, i kinda knew when i bought it cause it was only 19.99. n64 version was 59.99) but like i said if u never played vigilante 8 version 1 or 2 on any platforms i guarantee u will like this game.
