Fox Interactive successfully transforms the well loved science-fiction box series The X-Files into an exciting, but not entirely flawless, multimedia adventure game. Across a massive seven CDs, The X-Files Game places you in the role of FBI agent Craig Willmore, assigned to investigate the disappearance of special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Over the course of the investigation, you’ll cooperate with other X-Files characters, such as Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and “X” (Steven Williams); use a wide range of FBI gadgetry; and unravel many challenging puzzles.
Graphically, The X-Files Game is fantastic. All events are presented in crisp, colorful, box-like full-motion video that looks incredible on any Microsoft Windows 95/98 compatible video card. Sound and music are also topnotch; the show’s familiar theme song resonates throughout the adventure. Both adventure-genre novices and experts should feel at ease with the intuitive mouse-driven interface and the puzzles, which never exceed medium difficulty. The X-Files Game’s largest downer is the lack of the box show’s opinion characters, Mulder and Scully, who, after the cryptic introduction, don’t make an appearance until the very end stages of the tale. Still, if you’re an X-Files fan who can’t get enough alien conspiracy theories, you’ll likely delight in this interactive episode. –Doug RadcliffeAmazon.com Product Description

I thought this game would be splendid; I’m a huge X-Files fan. But it was really dull. It was just a matter of finding the right place to be at the right time; no puzzles, no actions that would affect the flow of the game. You just wander from one place to the other. It was cool to be able to cooperate with Mulder and Scully, but other than that, this game was a dissipate of time.

The Title line says it all (stolen from a song by Danger Bob, a small-bitty but splendid band). If you watch the show, you will delight in the chance to be on it. I guess it nearly simulates being on the show because you DON’T play Mulder or Scully. It also simulates being on the show in the way of waiting for something to happen, although you aren’t waiting for the lighting crew to set up the proper lighting, etc. You are looking for clues, and at times they are annoyingly hard to find. The only way to progress is by finding them. There are wonderful in-jokes for the fans, and once you find Mulder and Scully, it is very exciting to have them onscreen. The tale is okay, pretty much on par with this season of the X-Files. The items you use to help in the investigation make the game much more fascinating and fun. The end became pretty draggy trying to figure out what to do. The sequence mid-game with X was terrific, as you get to experience again what a badass he is. By and large, thrilling but a small draggy for fans, probably a bit of a drag for non-fans.

Ive been an on and off fan of the x files for years until recently, now im a huge fan!! but going threw the times when i was on again off again one of the things that never differed was my like for this game. it may be getting by the side of in years now but its still on of the best sports meeting ive ever played. the tale is an brilliant addition to the x files world. you play as agent craig willmore who is an FBI agent from Seattle, has been called on by AD skinner to find mulder and scully who have dissapeared under weird circumstances.
i know there are some whiny people saying “but i wanted to play as mulder and scully”, well thats not really very original for a game now is it. everyone would have expected that, and in this game you really do feel like your part of it because theres no friendship between familiar characters. meaning your not playing a character that will constantly hark back you that this game isnt real. and getting to mulder and scully makes it all the more realistic. besides if you wanna play as mulder and scully i recommend the PS2 X Files game Resist & Serve.
anyway back to the review, the point and click aspect of the game is not as dumb as you would presume, i believe it keeps thing unadorned control wise so you can focus on the paranormal mystery. i dont want to give to much away but there are plenty of twists and turns in this game to keep you spellbound and guessing for hours of play.
the acting is brilliant, the feel of the game is eery and mysterious (as it should be) believe me when i say tht this game is not just for x files fans, it can be delight in by anyone! it truely is a splendid game and i certainly recommend it.

I got this game for my birthday about 2 or 3 years ago, whenever it came out. I was so excited to play it, since I was and still am a huge X-Phile. But, as my computer was rather slow (166 MHZ, 48 MB of RAM… you get the picture), the game ran very poorly on my computer. Therefore, I place the game up on the shelf, and didn’t play it for a very, very long time.
Then about a year ago, my mom bought a new computer (500 MHZ, 64 MB of RAM). As I was playing around on it, I noticed The X-Files on the shelf. I then realized that I could play the game easily with no problems. I grabbed it off the shelf, installed it, and man was I impressed.
Now, although Mulder and Scully only appear in the splendid introduction and the final two discs, this game is still splendid. Mitch Pileggi, Steven Williams, Dean Haglund, Bruce Harwood and Tom Braidwood show up as some nice cameo appearances in the game, as well as William B. Davis as the Cigarette-Smoking Man, although he only shows up for a few seconds in an alternate ending. Oh well.
The plot is fascinatingly detailed, complex, fascinating. I was stunned to find out that Willmore’s “friend” turned out to be an enemy. Also, the graphics in this game are unbelievable. It’s live-action video, but it’s in incredibly excellent form and quality. It really seems like you’re in an episode of The X-Files. There are lots of references in the game that only X-Philes would get (such as the Hell Cash in James Wong’s boat), which kind of makes the game more fun and familiar for X-Philes.
The bottom line is, if you delight in the X-Files a lot, buy this game. If you’re not a fan, you might want to get it from a friend first, but I suggest you all give this game a try; it’s certainly worth it.

….
The first (and largest) disappointment is that you have to play a guy named Craig Willmore. I was hoping to play Scully or Mulder. But the video shots of them were very nice indeed, though you have to wait until the end to see them.
Then, I reflect it is in fact very eerie to play at some points, because sometimes POV ends up in awkward angles. I can’t clarify it very well, but sometimes you are not behind your character. It seems as if the POV changes at some points. I didn’t like that either.
Even after that, It was too simple. I beat the entire game in one weekend. …
I recommend it ONLY for rabid X-Files fans. All other people will probably not be impressed.
