From Star Fox’s laser pistol to Link’s hook shot, each character’s trademark special abilities are utilized to knock one another off the screen. The game does a splendid job balancing the characters’ widely differing powers so that no one character has an insurmountable advantage. The sound and animations are also dead-on: Donkey Kong is a huge, cartoonish ape, while Link is much more detailed and realistic. And Pikachu’s legendary thunder shock attack is accompanied by a fearsome yell of “PIKA!”
Unlike most fighting sports meeting, Super Smash Bros. allows you to team up with a computer partner and take on other teams in both release and multiplayer modes. But the most fun is had when four human players play in a battle royale. The game quickly becomes a scene of incredibly fun chaos: picture Mario beating up on Luigi, while Donkey Kong is chased by a scampering, sledgehammer-wielding Pikachu. It’s the exact party game. –Hugh Arnold

I am a hardcore fighting game fan. This is the only fighting game I really despise. It will get ancient and irritating. The controls are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to simple and each character neeeeeeeeed more attacks. When the characters are far apart, the characters get smaller and when they are close they are huge. I have giving this game to my friend, which was a huge mistake. There needs to be more characters and secrets. I do not recommend this game. I reccomend Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur, or Twisted Metal sports meeting. Who are you going to believe, me,a hardcore fighting game fan, or someone who never played fighting sports meeting before?

This may be a fun game for kids, but everytime our kids (and neighbors and friends) play this game, they end up yelling, quarreling, and whining within a few minutes. We have many other N64 sports meeting, and none of them cause no where near the termoil that is caused with this one – even after the kids promise not to fight.

As a parent, I bought this for my 7 year ancient based on the E rating. I misunderstood that this was a cross between super cart mario and mortal combat. I thought it would be like bumper cars! It is just plain fighting, kicking, punching between the characters. I despise it. Unfortunately, the kids all seem to like it.
