StarCraft Expansion Pack: Brood War
Amazon.com Review
Fans who mastered the original StarCraft’s three races and survived its well-crafted tale were quickly clamoring for more. A worthy sequel, Brood War delivers further plot twists and larger battles.
In keeping with StarCraft’s groundbreaking design, this expansion pack–which requires the original game–presents you with three sides of a galactic conflict. Scheming Humans, insidious Zerg, and proud Protoss collide again, with stunning new cinematics setting the stage. Ancient friends and foes and ominous new arrivals give the tale a breakneck pace, while a handful of additions to each race’s arsenal makes for tense battles.
Some missions require a bit of finesse, breaking the resource-gathering routine while making excellent use of the new units. Humans now have Valkyrie missile frigates, as well as Medics that automatically try to heal your grunts. New for the Zerg air force is the acid-spewing Devourer; the new Lurker unit provides heavy-duty (under) ground support. By the side of with the Corsair fighter, the Protoss re-penetrate the fray with Dark Templar, which can merge to form the devastating Dark Archon. Unfortunately, units ancient and new still suffer from some weak pathfinding.
Brood War also features stellar new environments and ambient art, as well as more than 100 additional multiplayer maps. Real-time approach sports meeting don’t get any more epic or any more satisfying. –Jack Gardiner
Pros:
- New units open up more strategic possibilities
- More of StarCraft’s splendid storytelling
- Missions are challenging and varied
Cons:
- Unit pathfinding is still a small clumsy and requires careful micromanagement

This game is brilliant fun. Splendid game play, hours of strategic warfare of the future, and chatrooms on battlenet. This game has probably the worst graffics I have ever seen, but the gameplay is outstanding. The release player sports meeting are very hard for new players, my advice, build quick!

This one is even more addictive than the first one. The new units add extra excitement for experienced players. The scenarios are varied and high quality. The campaigns are funner, too. The new terrain and critters are cool also. Blizzard makes another score!

What I found so intense about Starcraft is that I hide it from myself every now and then so that I can start to lead a life again. It is highly addictive. While the release player game is still enjoyable the only real way to play is multiplayer.

This game is a very excellent game. It is very much like the first game. I recommend that you do not buy this game until you have beat the first game. Also you must have the first game. What I do not like is when you play the first game (Star Craft) everything revoles around Brood War. The graphics are splendid. You should buy this game, but do not buy it in the Battle Chest.

This is a splendid expansion set! Some expansion sets, like the warcraft beyond the dark portico just added some new maps, but the gives new missions, maps, and best of all, six new units. The new units heavily strenghen the zerg and Protoss, But the humans did not get excellent new units (exept the medics). This only costs 9.99 now, and it is a splendid expansion set!
