Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Editorial Review
It is a time soon after the destruction of the first Death Star. Luke Skywalker has formed a squadron of hot-shot pilots to engage the still-formidable Imperial forces. You, as Luke, must lead this rogue squadron in a series of galaxy-across raids and rescues. To complete all your missions, you’ll need excellent flying skills, quick reflexes, a keen eye, and a quick trigger finger.
You get to glide all your favorite ships: The X-wing, Y-wing, snowspeeder–even the Millennium Falcon. There are also some “secret” ships, such as the sleek Naboo Starfighterfrom Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace, a TIE interceptor, and, um, a ‘78 Buick.
The flight simulation in this game is first-rate. You’ll find yourself leaning to the side as you pull a high-G turn in pursuit of Imperial TIE fighters. And the outstanding graphics and sounds are realistic enough to transport you to the Star Wars universe. Every detail is in place, right down to the individual Stormtroopers you can see running around (and trying to shoot you). One of the more impressive sequences lets you bring down Imperial Walkers by using the tow cables on your snowspeeder. Nice touch.
This is a release-player game, but you start each mission with a few wingmen from your squadron, and the well-done spoken dialogue between pilots and commanders really makes you feel like part of a team. The only significant shortcoming is the lack of a cooperative multiplayer option. With its brilliant gameplay, varied environments, and fascinating missions, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is sure to become a long-time favorite. –Eric Fredrickson
Pros:
- Faithful to lots of Star Wars details
- Satisfying flight action, explosions, sound effects
- Fascinating missions and plot
- See–and fight over–the Spice mines of Kessel and other legendary Star Wars planets
Cons:
- For some reason, you can only glide clockwise when bringing down a Walker
- No “simple” setting for those without The Force
- Voices of Luke, Wedge, and Han don’t sound like the real thing

Okay, I normally like everything Lucas Arts puts out, but this…
I really, honestly loathed this game! The gameplay was repetitive, hard, and booring. Basically, it is every vehicular battle from the trilogy, place on a game.
While this had splendid potential, and awesome graphics, I cannot reccomend it.

If you are a right Star Wars Fan, then you must have this game. The tale line is real excellent, and it in fact gives you plenty of information from the movies. The special effects and graphic detail (with the expansion pak) are real excellent.
I reflect that two of the major cons are that 1)the game does not have a multiplayer mode and 2)I really expected more from the “Death Star Trench” level. The truth is that that level has NOTHING to do with the Death Star trench run. Rebel Assault’s level is much better.

The graphics are awsome. The Explsions of ties, laser blasts, and guys on the ground screaming bloody murder. From beating the bombers blowing up the capital to reduction Wedge from a prision train it’s the best! The controls are simple to get use to so you already now you’re a pro. When you beat the game you can still play every action-packed level untill you get sick of it. Trust me, you won’t get sick.Just use the force and buy it.

This game is splendid for Star Wars fans! There are eleven release missions, but there are three bonus missions too. The first is a race on Tatooine where you glide a T-16 Skyhopper in a race against three of your squadron mates! The second is the Death Star Trench Run which the developers, in my opinion over did, because the trence is HUGE and it has to many turns. The best bonus level is the Battle of Hoth. The graphics and music are superd just like every other Lucasarts and Factor Five 5 game! Their are also secret vehicles. You can pilot the Naboo Starfighter by using a secret code (go to Lucasarts website!) the Millunium Falcon and the TIE Interceptor can be earned when you complete the game by getting all the gold medals. It doesn’t take long to beat this game if your excellent at sports meeting like this, but ot does offer a pretty excellent challenge. Now go join the Rebellion and vaporize those TIE Fighters.
