In 2409, Star Trek Online exists in a timeframe beyond even the latest movies, so everything you experience will be groundbreaking new, but still based on all the fiction you like. You Are the Captain Star Trek Online is the first AAA MMO to feature space and ground combat at launch. Missions will take you and your friends into the depths of space, across exotic planets, and even inside starships. As the Captain of your very own ship, it’s up to you to lead your crew on missions that span a number of locations. You call the shots, no matter where you are. When you’re in space, you direct the action – be it in the middle of a high-tension battle, where you can maneuver in 3-D space and fire a vast array of weaponry at your enemies, or as you penetrate warp to explore parts of the galaxy never before documented. On the ground, you lead your away team across exciting terrain, interacting with allies and battling enemies. Every Captain commands five subordinates on the ground, all of which can be directed to act in any manner you choose. Can you lead them safely owing to perilous locales? Total Customization Using Cryptic’s Total Customization technology, every ship you command can be customized by you, from its affect to its construction. Your ship will retain a Star Trek “feel,” but it will also represent your stylishness. What’s more, anyone can make their own species in Star Trek Online, meaning you can tell your own tale about how you came to be in the galaxy and leave your mark on the Star Trek universe. Built by Veterans with You in Mind Star Trek Online is developed by Cryptic Studios, creators of the massively flourishing City of Heroes and City of Villains. It’s built on the Cryptic Engine, a core technology that means Cryptic game designers can focus less on a game’s nuts and bolts and more on making a game that captures Star Trek’s essence, guaranteeing that both longtime fans of Star Trek and people new to the universe will feel at home. first I want to say I didnt buy STO and go live, in beta it was free and I still felt violated.
PARENTS: avoid this game it has no redeeming features that this franchise has the potential for its essencially hack and blast in star trek skin.
PLAYERS: dont bother with STO its a dull grind with alot of “been there done that”
you know something is dreadfully incorrect when they have a release date BEFORE beta starts.
to start STO uses a charactor creation cloned from city of heroes lots of choices here in charactor design.
the tutorial had been polished over the beta and gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling that is counter to the rest of STO as most missons are instanced in small feeling areas.
as far as space goes its bery procedural and precaned, there doesnt seem to be any non misson make pleased
and cryptic really evaded the likelihood to place STO solidly in the catagory of a fun learning game. When I went to SOL system I tried to scout out all the planets and found that they DIDNt EXISTS! even here in SOL system players could have done missons to survey the sun or venus or mars any number of places where players could have used their scanners to learn and learn real facts about these objects and use those facts to complete missons they have the planet earth but instead of it being an informative globe with at least a few capitals on it, its just a prety picture.
there is really no exploration,, scanning reduced to an anomoly finder you cant even scan other ships unless its a misson condition.
criptic left so much potential in the trash it should be a crime.
sports meeting like this should be banned if STO was food it would be on the same level as DIRT.
I would question the parenting ability of any parent that let their children play STO let alone fork over a lifetime subscription.
im sure STO will be fine because you could place star trek ona bag of dog doodoo and some people would buy it.
but if you buy such a low bar game then you get what you pay for and developers will just keep turning out junk, force them to step up to the plate.
apologize for my sentences im handicaped, I went to public school.

I used a friends 10-day trial code to try this out. I played for about 5 minutes after the tutorial was finished.
This review isn’t going to be productive or insightful. I just want to help push the average star rating down because I don’t believe people are using it accurately. 4/5 stars from people who liked the game and 3/5 for those that thought it was terrible…odd.
Now for the review!
When I first shot my gun, I laughed. It was a joke. My nephew is a Star Trek fan and he makes the same noise with his mouth and “hand” gun that the game does. It in fact made me feel stupid for not shutting it off right there. You tab target enemies and just spam the fire key, there are no misses. The larger the fight, the cornier it looks.
The ship looks massive but is ridiculously small. You have access to a couple rooms and most of them are just space filler.
Space is dull. I can’t really say much more about it. I like EVE Online, so space-based MMOs aren’t my conundrum.
This game just does such a terrible job of everything. An average of 3/5 stars doesn’t do it justice. Amazon should pull it off the shelves. In all truth, the open-beta probably caused more people to cancel their pre-order than place one…my suggestion: run…don’t look back.
This game is one of the worst.

They don’t seem to know that other web browsers exist, nor do they care. IE is core component of windows, so they dont need to list it separately according to coderanger
Cryptic Studios Team. The launcher may trip on any number of security harvest you have installed leaving you with a black dialogue box full of missing image placeholders, and dont expect much help as you can tell from the tone of this post to a paying customer:
quote coderanger:
_it is just simpler to install IE8 than to reinstall Windows. The choice is yours if you have a degraded system._

There is no information telling you that you need to pay an additional $[...] per month. And you can’t get to the promotional free-trial code. As far as I’m concerned, this is Fake Advertisement and a Complete Rip Off. We lost our cash because it can’t be returned. Star Trek needs to reconsider this game. DO NOT PURCHASE.

Tons of fun. Epic tale line and missions. Challenging PvP and PvE action. If you are a fan of Star Trek or any MMO, check it out. A splendid looking video game to boot! Five Stars!
