Spider-Man
Amazon.com Review
A 3-D action-adventure game starring everyone’s favorite webhead, Spider-Man is quite a rarity–a superhero video game that’s worth playing. Featuring an original tale jam-packed with characters and locations from the comics, and, more importantly, gameplay that does our hero justice, this is one title that won’t disappoint Spidey fans.
While Spider-Man’s tale line (told via a slide show of comic book panels) is linear, there’s splendid freedom of movement within the game’s 3-D indoor and outdoor environments. Right to comic book form, you can climb parapet and travel about webswinging, although the former can be disorientating in terms of point-of-view, and the latter is often a leap of faith, as the game’s shoddy graphics (even with the optional Expansion Pak) make a restricted field of vision. In addition to being able to do all sorts of nifty things with your webspinners, Spidey’s superstrength, superagility, and spider-sense (for which you’ll want a Rumble Pak to feel the patented tingle) are also accounted for. As for his superhuman reflexes, well, that one’s really up to you. –Joe Hon
Pros:
- Gameplay that in fact does Spider-Man justice
- Unadorned in-game show; solid controls
- Lots of secrets unlock in records and gallery modes
- Kid mode simplifies controls and gameplay for younger players
Cons:
- Shoddy graphics can cause Spidey to go splat
- Point-of-view can be disorienting at times
- PlayStation version features much-improved graphics and sound
Buy Cheap Spider-Man

I bought this game because it had Superman on the front. Huge mistake. The graphics are horrible and far too unadorned for the N64. The gameplay is awkward and hard to control. But the worst part of this game is the tale. It took about 2 seconds to reflect up and the game spends just as much time on the storyline. The whole point is dull- flying owing to endless jewelry and other monotonous unexciting tasks. This game is horrible. Buy Spiderman instead- at least you wont want to throw Spiderman out of the dialogue box.

First, when I heard about Spider-Man …, I could not wait to get it. Now that I have it, I don’t reflect it is exact. This game is [terrible] when compared to [other] sports meeting …. First, the graphics of Spider-Man was very excellent (except some levels where you can’t see Spider-Man because he is far away from the view)but the sound is not more than average for N64 standards. The music does a excellent job for fitting the mood but the quality is terrible. N64 has a list of about 190 sports meeting with CD-quality sound and a list of 30 sports meeting with surround and dolby surround sound. Spider-Man, on the other hand, is very silent and cannot get much louder. Buy this game if you like a red cartridge and action but don’t care about sound quality but rent this game if you are used to sports meeting like Exact Dark. All in all, Spider-Man is a splendid game but when compared to top N64 sports meeting, it is [terrible].

I thought I would wait til I finished to review this game, but I have grown very tired of having to start at the beginning of each level over and over. There are checkpoints in the levels, but I often stop in the middle and leave the game on and it always hangs so I have to reload from my nvram pack which saves only at the start of the level.
Rants : irritating game save. It can only see one controller so you are constantly swapping in and out your rumblepack.
poor control. there are some mortal combat like sequences which cause certain web events and combos, but they only work one time out of two for me so they are pretty useless when fighting.
web swinging is essentially 2d. You have no momentum side to side.
Spider sense is never helpful.
The action getting to some of the bosses is dull. Reminicent of some of the early LucasArts jedi sports meeting.
Raves : Well its spiderman, the sounds and voices are excellent, the enemy AI is fine, and the bosses are all challenging so far. Its fun to have spider powers in a 3d space too.
Conclusion : I reflect team mario could have really done something with this concept. This plays like a bone idle port from an inferior platform (which I guess it is), but its still a must have for spiderman fans.

Spider Man turned out to be more than I had originally suspected, but it didn’t live up to the expectations everyone else had set for it. — Spider Man, if anything noteworthy, allows you to swing from building to building and crawl up parapet. Cheers to that! An ingenius thought that’s really fun, but the game doesn’t give us enough time to delight in it. What I really wanted to be able to do in Spider Man was swing freely around on top of buildings and beat up unsuspecting thugs. Yes, you can do that… in the first level. All other levels either take place inside cramped living quarters, or are timed races. Therefore, this game keeps you on the go and leaves very small time to merely “dink around.” Spider Man is also small lived and for small “extra rewards.” It’ll indeed keep you entertained all the way until the end, but I wish there was something more to do once it was over.
