The Tale of a Grim Homecoming
Homecoming’s tale follows the nightmare turned real life of Alex Guide, a war experienced person returning to his hometown of Guide’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his kid brother, Josh. From Guide’s Glen to the foggy streets of dreaded Silent Hill, Alex must face the darkest of horrors in order to find his brother. Struggling with his own grip on reality, it’s here that Alex must unravel the mystery behind his nightmares, learn the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, and confront the evil that takes hold of his own flesh and blood in the process.
Firmly steeped in the Survival-Horror genre its series has been pivotal in establishing, action in Homecoming ruins based on exploration of the terrors residing in the communities surrounding Toluca lake and puzzle-solving skill as a means of surviving them. But to its credit game developer Double Helix refuses to rest on past laurels, choosing instead to include new more accessible gameplay in the hopes of gaining a new consultation for Homecoming. Examples of this gameplay include: Next-Gen Visual and Spatial Features – Every sequel seeks reinvent the namesake game in their series. Homecoming does this in three ways, by adding the ability to toggle between a traditional third-person view and an action-oriented first-person view; by adding fully 3-D physics to the game, making a realistic range of motion for any and all objects impacted by the player; and by adding transitions or “Hell States” that alter the game’s physical landscape at points in the game both in real-time and via cinematics. All three actively change the way players see themselves and in the process make a whole new game experience. An Enhanced Combat System – Adding to the standard knives, axes, pipes and other melee weapons that made up the arsenal of previous Silent Hill sports meeting, Homecoming adds a wide variety of guns and explosives. Fitting with the military back-tale of protagonist Alex Shephard, these weapons can be wielded in attacks weighted as weak or strong and can be strung together in combos to stun or incapacitate opponents, who can then be taken out with powerful finishing moves. With practice players can even go evasive ducks and rolls and follow these up with counterattacks. But remember that enemy AI has also been significantly improved to compensate for your higher degree of combat prowess, and that it’s not uncommon to battle multiple monsters simultaneously. Key Features:
- Penetrate the next stage of Silent Hill as you delve deeper in the tormented history of the town and learn of the evil that surrounds Toluca Lake.
- Silent Hill: Homecoming is the 1st Silent Hill game designed for PlayStation 3.
- From the murky fog to the ominous shadows, all-new next-gen graphics bring Silent Hill to life like never before.
- Survive the denizens of Silent Hill with an all-new enhanced combat system that gives you a wide array of attacks and counters.
- Solve the treacherous and deadly puzzles of Silent Hill to learn its darkest secrets.
- Silent Hill: Homecoming will feature an all-new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka.
Exceptional Replay Regard
Although Alex Guide is the only playable character in Silent Hill: Homecoming there are many other vital characters–some returning from earlier sports meeting in the series–that can have a dramatic impact on the game. When interacting with these, players are given a choice in how to proceed via dialog trees. Will you take the small route letting only the search for your brother guide you or will you explore the nooks and crannies that make up the mystery of Silent Hill hidden in the small talk you share with non-playable characters? The choice is yours, with different paths providing for possible alternate endings each time you delve into the game.
All sports meeting in the Survival-Horror genre seek to make tension and unease owing to sound and Homecoming does this masterfully owing to the compositions and sound engineering of Akira Yamaoka. Having scored the music and effects for dozens of video game titles, including all of the previous sports meeting in the Silent Hill series, Yamaoka is considered a master at using sound to illicit a response.

Silent Hill Homecoming is a worthy addition to the scary series and still has the incredible grainy/creepy atmosphere of past sports meeting. Alex is a skilled protagonist with splendid combat ability and the tale is in fact very excellent. I recommend this for fans of survival horror and just those who delight in splendid sports meeting.

I have to say that if there is one game in the past ten years that I believe was an resolution dissipate of time devoid of any entertainment regard, this is it. What didn’t I like about this game?
1. Corniest storyline ever. I kept playing hoping it would get better but it in fact got progressively worse. The ending? I’m not giving away specific spoilers but lets just say the last boss was chance in a corny way and the end clip really got me POed. Not a excellent way to end a game at all.
2. The combat is clunky and cumbersome. Also, you are limited to carrying 24 rounds of ammo for your gun for no reason whatsoever! I angrily left behind ammo because I had too much. This forces you to do melee combat or run. With the crappy camera angles, especially in hallways, that translates to running. Thats not fun.
3. The enemies were poorly made. One in particular is a huge man in the front with a woman body attached at the back?!? Lmao. Again, the last enemy in particular was especially dreadful; especially what happens when you beat him.
4. Repetition redux – You spend alot of time backtracking owing to areas you’ve already been owing to. I’d say of the 10 hours I spent playing, 3 hours were spent exploring new areas.
I spent $15 dollars on this game and still reflect I got ripped off. Avoid at all costs!

Homecoming is an alright game, but it cascade small in many areas.
The game never really made me feel any dread at any time.
The enemies are more irritating then anything.
It’s a bit too simple for a survival horror game.
The graphics aren’t that splendid when compared to what the PS3 can do.
The replay regard is nearly zero.
As an droll note, unlike most survival horror sports meeting that reward you with conserved resources for using your knife skillfully, this game rewards you for using your knife skillfully by the fact that the knife is the best weapon to use in nearly every situation.
In all honesty if you don’t own or haven’t played Silent Hill 2, buy it instead and you’ll have a game that is vastly superior in all ways except graphically. If you are a survival horror fan then Homecoming isn’t a total dissipate of cash if you need a fix.

So as you might have surmised from the title of this review, that was pretty much my reaction at the end of the game. STUPIDEST ENDING EVER! If anything, you have to play the game JUST to see the horribleness of the ending. It’s a cliffhanger too, to make things worse. It makes me worried of the management Silent Hill might be going. On the plus side, the monsters were pretty cool and extremely inventive, like Scarlett. Probably the creepiest freakshow mutants you’ll ever witness in a Silent Hill game or ANY game at that. And they kept the nurses too, though they are more as they were featured in the movie than from previous sports meeting. Scenes, fights, and etc. were VERY graphic, disgusting really, which was awesome! And I liked how they made the game alot like the movie, which some stores were also giving away as a free promotional item with the game. I would suggest watching the movie first, then playing the game to get the full effect and appreciation of what the makers were going for. Cut-scenes were shown as if shot from an ancient-timey projector, which added an eeiry element. By and large, this was a pretty bold attempt at prolonging the much acclaimed series. Only major problems were the ending (Dear god…that ending…YEESH!), the odd and extreme difficulty of the boss fights, and the tale, which was strangely linear and dull coming from a psychotic’s point of view (Alex Sheperd). Basically, if you’re a Silent Hill fan like me, then I’d say your required to play this game. Otherwise, if you don’t really like gore or creepiness or feeling jipped at the end of a $60 video game, then steer clear!
