I played SET as a card game for years. It is an awesome game. I like the fact that I am really excellent at it because it won so many awards. The computer version really adds some clean challenges. I like the beat-the-timer mode, and I am really hooked on the mode where I get extra time if I’m quick enough. I keep making the hall of fame. Really splendid because now I can play anytime not just when my friends come over. I like it.

Please be aware that I’ve never played Cyber SET; I’m a HUGE fan of the card game and the daily online puzzle who finally chose to bite the bullet and buy this edition. Not only was the game no longer listed for sale on the company’s Web site, but the customer service department (who, to their credit, responded to my questions very quickly) informed me that the game doesn’t even run on anything more recent than Macintosh OS 8 (although subsequent sifting owing to their site claims owing to OS X 10.2–two upgrades ago at the time of this review). A revision is said to be in the works, but I was informed that it was unlikely to see the light of day before 2007.
Unlike the previous reviewer, I’m not particularly interested in playing online, or on a network against my friends which I can easily do with the cards (everyone in my circle owns a deck)–I’d just like to be able to increase by playing against my laptop. It seems a tad ironic that a game with such high “nerd appeal” is no longer compatible with recent technology. My rating reflects my disappointment that Cyber SET isn’t available for newer operating systems; there aren’t enough stars to rate SET itself.

I’ve been playing the card game for years–it’s wonderful. I’m so pleased they’ve made a computer version so that I don’t have to find someone to play against me! As a mathematics educator, I’ll certainly get this for my classroom, because I reflect that it encourages the same kind of thinking required for conceptual problems posed in high-school math classes. (And, theoretically, it can be used to cover some mathematical concepts, like probability.) It’s certainly a stimulating game–and I like it.

My son and I like to play the daily puzzle of the game of SET at the website setgame.com. Naturally we were excited to see that this version listed “Includes online play” as a feature, because we have multiple PC’s at home on our home network.
The CD version I received gives the error message “Sorry, your IP address is invalid for this Demo Version” when we try multi-player mode. Then I realized exchanges options lists only 3 modem speeds – 1200, 2400 and 9600 baud.
Cmon folks – This is the year 2005: era of home networks, broadband and multiple cell phones. None of my home PC’s even have modems. At this day and age, cannot expect 2 analog phone shape at home to dial each other for “Online play” via slooooow Modems! From the “Help-About” it appears the game may have been last updated in 1994. The vendor really needs to update the software to be compatible with contemporary computer networks.
Other than the above gripes, the game itself was functional and looked excellent. But, I am returning the game as I bought it with online play as a major reason.

I played the computer game SET for the first time last night at a party my parents went to. It was fun but challenging because the computer was finding more sets than I was in the beginning. Other people got interested in the game and everyone started looking for the sets. Then I started to see the sets quicker and could beat the computer. I liked it because it lets me play one on one against the computer while I’m learning the game and I know I can get excellent enough to beat the computer and even those other people who were looking over my shoulder.
