I played this game as a kid and it is fantastic! The sequals, in my eyes, never came close to the magic this game made. I don’t want to spoil the tale so here’s the basics. You are a young boy in a village and happen across something very special that starts your adventure. You make a couple friends a long the way that join you. Now these “friends” follow you around and help fight. There is no turn based combat, you basically run around the screen and get the terrible guys (or animals, or magical creatures, or no matter what) before they get you. As the tale line progresses you get new kinds of weapons and new kinds of magic. For the time the magic effects are very spiffy. As you fight and use your spells they “level up”. Not only do your ally’s follow you around and help, but you have the option of choosing who you play as. This helps in leveling up the weapons/spells of each character so they are stronger in their support role. Probably the most fun feature is someone can play with you! Have your companion pick up the controller and they can follow you around too! Much better than the computer AI, but the computer AI isn’t horrible either. The only limitation is you can’t wander too far from each other — so play with someone that will work with you. For SNES the scenes are beatiful, the tale is unique and the controls make sense. Many fond memories and a classic RPG!
