Tale
Year: 2012, Place: Pripyat, the wasted city near Chernobyl, site of the world’s most devastating nuclear accident. Decades later, unstable and inexplicable artifacts with mean powers are learned within the zone.
High risks do not stop the S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs, paramilitary adventurers and looters from entering the zone for profit. They are willing to face death to make a fortune by retrieving and selling those precious artifacts. When 5 military helicopters disappear in the zone, you must go undercover as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R and face off against mutants, an onslaught of enemy creatures, and other bizarre atrocities that reveal the right face of terror.
Gameplay
Where most first person shooters rely on relentless action to engage their players, Call of Pripyat goes in an entirely different management: allowing for long moments of silence amidst a desolate landscape and an ever changing outlook. It’s the stuff grade-A horror movies are made of. The haunting atmosphere tries the nerves of even the most seasoned gamer. The environment is dynamic: day and night alternate and are filled with thunderstorms and sunshine. Deadly radioactive emissions occur periodically but unpredictably, killing anyone and anything who cannot find shelter.
Players will live the life of undercover agent Major Degtyarev, an experienced tail, as he eats, drinks, and sleeps in the Zone. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP is non-linear gameplay at its best, as the player seeks allies and makes enemies in the treacherous and fragile balance between rival factions, bandits, and mercenaries. Friendships are only temporary in the Zone, where a bullet that was supposed to protect can become the instrument of death in a matter of split seconds.
Multiplayer modes grant endless enjoyment as players compete against each other individually and in teams to increase their rank and cash. Climbing up the ladder is the way to get access to the most devastating weapons. A player’s success depends on his proficiency in warfare and his ability to help his team.
Play on the Internet or over LAN includes: Death Match–every man for himself, the goal is survival; Team Death Match–Stalkers and Mercenaries go head-to-head in a battle of Soviet vs. NATO weaponry; Artifact Hunt–a small amount of artifacts and a large amount of greed clash Stalkers and Mercenaries compete to collect proceeds; Capture the Artifact–capture the enemy’s artifact and bring it home.

I had high expectations for STALKER. I’d read the reviews of a dark, brooding FPS/RPG set in a nuclear dissipate-ridden Russia featuring an fascinating storyline and various factions to deal with. But, STALKER doesn’t live up to the hype, especially when compared with other splendid FPS/RPGs like Nothingness and Fallout 3. Also, the game map is small. I’d estimate one-fifth the size of Nothingness or Fallout which cramps exploration. There are no towns to explore with NPCs to get to know. Just a few buildings, some that are abandoned, few camps and a ship converted into the only “town,” like Rivet City in FO3 except smaller.
To say the graphics are aging is an understatement. Even with all the video options set to high (I’m running an Intel i7 quad-core, 3 gigs OCZ DDR3 RAM, 1T Seagate Barracuda HD) the game seems circa 2003 at best. Landscapes are blocky, polygons are visibly visible and NPCs sort of glide-step across the terrain (ala Morrowind, which is much grown-up). The conversation system is backwards, i.e. dialog with NPCs is text-based, but when they’re talking among themselves it’s all in Russian, or something that sounds like Russian. So any information that could be gleamed by eavesdropping is useless. Sure, they will occasionally speak in English when you approach an NPC, but then it’s only mundane stuff like, “Hey, bro” (wouldn’t a Russian say “comrade”?) or “Place your weapon away.”
I really tried to get into the storyline, but was so bored by the limpid side quests, poor graphics and ancient dialog system that I lost interest. This one’s going into my for sale bin.

This is one Awsome game have played and modded it since it came out, has a few bugs but the patches fix most of them has many mods for the game. one of the best things the Dev’s did was to give the tools to the public so the Game could be expanded way beyond it original ver. Wished more game developers had that forsite. It is and emersive fps/rpg game with a lot of game play.

First off the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is my all time favorite pc game. I absolutely loved shadow of Chernobyl and feel it was the best of the series and clear sky was nearly as excellent as shadow of Chernobyl in my opinion. I was so excited when I saw that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cop. had come out that I place the other sports meeting I was playing on the shelf for a while (Dragon age/killing floor). But the excitement soon waned as I found the game play of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cop some what disappointing. Yes S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cop still has that odd Russian wonderful eeriness that in my opinion makes the game so worth playing even with all of its other issues. I could go on and on about the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series but I have chose to just air some complaints in regard to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cop.
WARNING: possible spoilers to follow.
1: The first thing I noticed is the gun sounds are some of the worst of any game I have ever played. They sound like small cap guns. This is so terrible that I even found a mod that was supposed to increase the sounds. (and I don’t usually dissipate time modding sports meeting) Well, even with the mod the guns still sound like cap guns and the mod also changed the thunder sounds. Why?… I don’t know (that was just lame and if I had known that I wouldn’t have used the mod.).
2:The guns are pathetic.(so are the grenades) You get 3 levels of up grades from the mechanics and you can’t get the 3rd level upgrades till nearly the end of the game. I’m probably a couple hours from the end of the game (still haven’t found the tools needed for level 3 upgrading) and I have all the level 2 upgrades, and $200,000.00 in cash, (and probably another $200,000.00 in stash) and not anything to spend it on. And just to let you know, a level 2 assault rifle can still take up to 50 shots to kill a standard mutant or wild dog.(ammo for the more powerful guns is so scarce that those guns don’t even come into play)
3:Largely the game becomes a tiresome giant and pointless Easter egg hunt. But the atmosphere makes it still enjoyable.
4: The suits are a mixed bag with some providing excellent armor and no ability to use artifact containers and others that grant honest chemical and rad protection but poor protection from weapons (at least at level 2, but what is the point ? The game is nearly over.)
5: And now one of my all time favorites with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The constant and ever present game stutter. I learned from the first 2 that there is no point in even trying to fix it. All 3 have the worst stutter of any game I have ever played.
6:The secrecy aspect of the first 2 sports meeting was brilliant but there is no secrecy aspect to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cop and the game largely becomes a save and reload fest. And the load times can be excessive despite what others are claiming.
7:And the last complaint that I’m going to list is a blanket complaint as to the by and large lame and pointless feel of the game. Like talking to characters over and over with the same meaningless dialogue. (most nauseating over repeated phrase “go talk to the huge terrible boss.”)
Just as a side note the game difficulty is not a factor in my opinion of this game as I have always liked how hard the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series has been and I always found it odd how much people complained about it.
As with all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sports meeting it is the eerie atmosphere that make them so special. No other game in my opinion does this so well.
Go ahead and bash my review if you feel the need for my not loving this game like everyone else but I can tell you right now I have been a dedicated fan of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. since the beginning when most people never even heard of or new the game existed. This game in the series although still very excellent, is just kind of a let down.
update added later: finished game …..never did find level 3 upgrade tools.
update added even later: It really is to terrible the level 3 upgrades didn’t play more into the game. I chose the free roaming option at the end of the game and finally found the tools to upgrade to level 3 equiptment and weapons, and I reflect I’m having more fun in the free roam section of the game with the weapons and armor with level 3 upgrades as the game seems much more balanced and realistic. All in all another splendid S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience. My thanks go out to all involved in bringing us the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
