The racing sim part of rfactor deserves 5 stars, but the release player “game” part of rfactor deserves 1 start. Let me clarify.
rfactor really isn’t designed for release player mode. It comes with a few fictional cars that can be raced on a few fictional tracks. The user is expected to mod the game adding tracks and cars made by other users. The AI is just plain terrible. I tweaked the config file a bit and improved it a small. The AI will ram your car off the track every chance it gets. It will always try to run the fastest possible line, even if you are in the way. It will not even realize you are there and just try to guide right owing to you. The AI doesn’t use normal physics either. It can stop much quicker than the player can and turn much quicker. If you buy this game for release player use, you will be disappointed.
The Sim part of the game is incredible. Cars guide how you would expect them to. Graphics are top notch. You get everything you would expect out of a top notch driving sim. Its as excellent or better than anything out there, iracing, gtr2, gtr evo, or no matter what you favorite sim is.
Multi-player works like this. Users design cars and tracks and then host servers. You need to figure out what tracks and cars you need in order to join the server. If you don’t have the right car, you won’t be able to join. rfactor leaves most of the work up to the users. I looked online to see if I could find a game but there was only a couple sports meeting that had players in them and I didn’t have the right tracks and cars so I couldn’t join. I was too bone idle to figure out what I needed so I just jumped on iracing instead and ran some races there.
Rfactor has huge potential, but you need to know what your doing. If you are the type of person who likes racing online, and doesn’t mind modding a game yourself, rfactor is for you. If you are bone idle or lack the knowledge to mod a game, rfactor might disappoint you. If you don’t even own an expensive force pointer racing wheel, what are you doing go play need for alacrity.

Incredible car simulator. Squeaking brake discs, whining dogbox gears, incredible physics. Plus hundreds of tracks, cars, skins. What more can you question for?

As it comes, rFactor is a splendid racing sim. What makes it special are all the free cars and tracks you can download. You can customize rFactor for any type of racing you can presume. From driving a go kart around Monaco to driving a Zonda at Laguna Seca.

rFactor is the greatest driving game on the market.. there are unlimited tracks and mods you can use with this game. buy it 1 time and you can download more tracks and different cars and trucks (from F1 to lawnmowers!)
than you can ever guide.There is new stuff constantly being developed for it everyday. If you have a computer that will allow you to max out the graphics this game has to offer, you will be AMAZED!!!

Despite basicly being a mod platform, rFactor does it right.
Splendid graphics and sound, and tons of tracks from across the world and splendid mods by CTDP, MMG and others make it worth it for Formula fans, and other forms of motorsport.
It’s worth the price.
