Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Editorial Review
Rayman 2 follows in the footsteps of Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie as another classic 3-D action game for the Nintendo 64. Rayman, who is strangely huge in France, is a weird golden-haired creature with hands and feet that are magically connected to his body by invisible appendages. This odd character can glide like a helicopter and throw his fists around as well as jump, climb, and swim. As in any decent action jumping game, Rayman meets up with many friends and enemies on his quest. Your mission is to rescue hostages held by the vile Robo-Pirates.
The game has an odd cinematic feel to it–perhaps due to its widescreen presentation and cutscenes. A cute feature is the design of the characters, who speak in their own forms of cute gibberish. Graphically, this game is rich with deep dark colors spread out over 50 levels and 20 worlds. Hiding in these levels are colored “lums” that can be used to open up new worlds or to restore Rayman’s energy. These come in handy when you want to breathe underwater for long periods of time. Rayman must also collect magic masks and crystals, among other goodies. –Robb Guido
Pros:
- Plain 3-D graphics
- Huge number of levels
- Lots of gameplay variety
Cons:
- The Dreamcast version looks even better

Although a lot of people liked this game I despised it. For one thing this game was WAAAAYYYYYY too simple (I beat this game in three days playing only 1 hour a day! The first game had me playing for mounths! )! You’re supposed to find this fairy to give you all your powers back, and yet you start the game with all your powers! Plus I don’t care how excellent the graphics are, Rayman does NOT look excellent in 3D and does not belong in 3D! So get the first game, I don’t recomend this game to ANYONE! And you know what’s worse? This Nintendo 64 vertion looks WORSE and plays WORSE than the Dreamcast vertion! Now that’s sad (Even though I never liked N64).

I bought N64 Rayman 2 the splendid escape for my 5-year ancient grandson. I have to play first before I can teach my grandson
how to play. I got conundrum at the very begining. After Rayman’s
first action to crash a pirate cage and catch the first lum, he
fall into a river. I know where Rayman suppose to go. But the parapet are too high. I spent three days try to jump up to that
plateform, but I could not do it. This game probably will not
play again.

Rayman 2 is not by any means worth buying (new or used.) Dull is a word that would best describe this game. The one bright spot could be the graphics, but that alone does not make this a fun game. If you are looking for an adventure game as such I would recomend Banjo-Kazooi, Donkey Kong 64, or Zelda 64. These are real sports meeting that are about 50 times more enjoyable than Rayman. Take my advice and don’t spend your cash.
