The splendid thing about later generation Sega Master System titles is that Sega started to pour it’s heart and soul into quality harvest, and we finished up with a nice pool of 16 to 8-bit port, and they turned out wonderfully!
Rastan is no exception. As you might expect, this is far from a pixel exact re-production of it’s Arcade huge brother. Rather this is an artistic re-imagining of the game, and it pulls it off quite exceptionally. The graphics look very excellent compared to many of the 8-bit titles of the day, the sound track, while lacking the resonance of the Arcade, still sounded mystic and intimidating as it should!
The levels are the same as the Arcade in some spots, but then as you go on, you’ll see that there have been a number of alterations which work out well enough that I don’t mind playing this back to back with the Arcade original, just to experience that variety.
Of course the controls are Rastan, as are the weapons, enemies, etc.
If you are a fan of the series, or of the classic Castlevania stylishness sports meeting, then you need this in your confidential pool, by the side of side of Kensieden!
