This is what video game racing is all about. It doesn’t matter whether it’s race cars, street cars, motorcycles or ATV’s.
“Pure” is among the new generation of titles that deliver on the promise of next generation racing. The visuals are lush and incredible (gone are the days when you couldn’t see 50 feet up the road). The controls are charming and open. There are a lot of tracks to choose from. And the physics are intense, whether you’re looking for a straight race or a tricked-out thrill ride.
But – this is why I wouldn’t buy it. Gamers have evolved. We no longer sit in our parent’s basement by ourselves playing video sports meeting. For me, gaming is more of a social event. There’s not anything I like better than getting together with my friends and racing against each other.
But “Pure” (and most other new racing sports meeting) are only for one (local) player. Sure, I can race multiple real-life opponents online, but it’s just not the same. And until PS3 and the developers realize this I will hold off on purchasing any more racing sports meeting.

The game looks splendid and is fun to play. Challenging without being frustrating. The only thing I would change would be to make it 4 player split screen so you can play it with your friends in the same room, rather than having to play online

Pure seems to be an unpolished released, for the PS3. It has some fun and exciting gameplay, but it just didn’t feel complete or finely tuned. I’d recommend renting this title, or waiting for used prices to come down. For many, it is probably not worth new retail pricing.
It does look gorgeous with the PS3’s strong graphics on a large box. You can certainly have a blast for a while. But, after some time it’s a question of what next, or some of the unfinished elements makes it feel limited.
Furthermore, don’t look forward to flying high owing to the splendid graphics around the world with friends. It is a one player game, which is a significant disappointment. By and large, this Disney release again is a lot of fun, but the limitations keep pulling me from giving it a hardier recommendation. It could have earned 4/5, but it’s an enjoyable 3/5.

I’ve been playing video sports meeting for more than 20 years, and I’ve played all types of racing sports meeting. This is the first ATV racing game I’ve ever played…and it’s got me HOOKED!
At the start, I heard a very calming voice during the in-game tutorials. He told me that I had to complete 5 tasks before I could start out on the racing tour:
(1) Complete a lap
(2) Pre-load before a jump
(3) Pull a jump trick
(4) Use boost
(5) Complete a lap in 27 seconds or less
The on-screen instructions were very simple to follow. After I completed this task, I found myself at the main menu of options:
(1) World Tour – In my quest to become #1, I would have to conquer 10 separate stages, each one more hard than the last.
(2) Release Event – This allowed me to complete in a release Race Course, Sprint Course or changeable Course, with adjustable difficulty levels for my computerized opponents.
(3) Trial Mode – This option let me try out any completed course with no opponents. I could look for shortcuts, practice tricks, and use tutorials to get gameplay tips.
(4) Online Play – I could complete with up to 15 other people to earn bragging rights!
(5) Garage – Here, I could build the ATV of my dreams. The developers had variety in mind, because there were 23 different components to mix and match – according to the game description, this gives me 65,000 possible combinations to build my ATV!
(6) Leaderboards – I could check either my own stats for the courses I had completed, or ranked matches I completed online.
(7) Finally, the options menu. Here, I could choose sound levels, 3 different controller schemes, and an option I hadn’t seen before – I could decrease the load times by installing my save data to the Playstation 3’s HDD.
So how is Pure different from other racing sports meeting?
For starters, Disney Interactive combined several different kinds of software in its development:
(1) Bink Video – A video file format that runs super-quick, uses as small memory as possible, and doesn’t crash.
(2) FMOD – a commercial audio library that plays music files of different formats to grant superior sound.
(3) Morpheme – a game engine designed from the ground up to give animators unprecedented control over the final look of in-game animations.
(4) Scaleform – a graphics engine combining development ease with the latest hardware graphics acceleration that game developers (and game PLAYERS!) demand.
(5) Quazal – a company dedicated to delivering multiplayer technology to our ever-demanding video game needs.
Now, all this doesn’t mean a thing if the game isn’t FUN. How would I describe the gameplay?
BREATHTAKING.
I found myself amazed at the variety Pure had to offer! No race was ever the same. My opponents took different tracks, performed different tricks, and even crashed from time to time! I made 3 ATV’s – one for racing, one for freestyling, and one for sprinting. As I got better at the events, I unlocked other tracks, parts, stages, even new outfits for my riders!!! The music even had variety, with 25 different musical artists.
Now, as any gamer will tell you, the largest annoyance are loading times between stages or restarting levels. I chose to restart a race, and it took less than a second to restart.
I’ll do again that so it can soak in…
IT TOOK LESS THAN ONE SECOND TO RESTART A RACE.
Now, Pure does have a few negatives:
(1) No map screen. I’m an ancient fashioned gamer, and I like a map to see where turns are coming up. I can practice on an empty track, so this can be overlooked.
(2) The occasional “I’m Stuck!” error. Sometimes the rider got caught behind a fence or a tree and the game wouldn’t reset the rider back on track. There are very few of these errors, but they do happen.
(3) The “Out Of Bounds” error. Some parts inside the course are considered out of bounds, but are not visibly marked – all it takes is one incorrect jump and I went from 1st place to 9th place.
Even with these small drawbacks, I strongly recommend Pure.
After all, it wasn’t voted Best Racing Game of E3 2008 for not anything!

This is a excellent game. It is worth the cash if you get a excellent deal on it. I have distress doing different tricks, i always do the same ones over and over again, but that is probably because I am not excellent at it ha.
