I ordered the Mad Catz Fender bass controller mainly because I wanted a controller that had as close to the feel of a real bass as possible. Based on previous (mostly terrible) experience with third party peripherals, my expectations weren’t very high. After in fact playing Rock Band 2 with it I can honestly say it FAR exceeded those expectations. This thing is a DREAM to play. It has a nice weight to it that’s missing from most of these “musical instrument” controllers and Mad Catz really did an outstanding job on the fret buttons. They feel splendid. Nice, firm and super silent with VERY few missed clarification. I played owing to an eight song set and after the first couple of songs where I was getting a feel for the controller (and trying to go the coffee table with my knee) and missing a few clarification, I pulled off the rest of the set with 100% clarification hit. The start/brilliant knob takes a small getting used to, but after a few minutes I grew to LOVE it. The thumb rest is super and perfectly positioned for most comfort. The dual strum bars are splendid and required small to no time getting used to. All in all I have to say this thing is better than the first party guitar controllers for Rock Band for which I have a deep affection (in comparison to the various Guitar Hero controllers so far). If you’re into playing bass on Rock Band or Guitar Hero, you owe it to yourself to grab one of these beauties. You will NOT be disappointed.

I am a bass player and this bass guitar controller makes my heart warm. The detail in this product is really impressive. The affect options are really splendid, I chose seafoam green because I wish I could own a real bass of the same affect, but this controller certainly satisfies my need! I am unsure about the 5-way selector and what use it plays in the sports meeting but the two mini strum bars accurately replicate playing an actual bass, or you can use only one of the strum bars like a classic controller of this genre (and you can make the switch in the midst of playing). Absolutley like this bass controller, recommend it to everyone!

This guitar has an awesome feel, splendid action and really makes playing the Bass a lot more fun with the dual-strum capability.
Of course, this is if the unit is in fact effective.
All 3 I have had have the same conundrum – keeps looking connection (seems to turn itself off at random) if you go at all. Makes playing rather cumbersome.
I appreciate Amazon and their return policy, but I reflect that the folks who made the Guitar really messed up on their product QA.
Maybe as they fix their problems it will be worth it.

I got the seafoam green version of this controller for PS3 and loved it right out of the box. The fret buttons are much less clacky and the springs in the strum bars feel much better than on the wired 360 wired version of this controller that I have.
In addition, the strum bars on this guitar are configured in such a way that when up-strumming, the bar on the left registers as a down and the one on the right registers as an up strum. This is vital to note because if you play owing to a song up-strumming in an alternating fashion on both bars you will not get the Authentic Strummer achievement/notation.
The wired xbox version that I have did not have this down/up strum bar configuration and I’d find myself breaking combo a lot because during quick sections the guitar seemingly could not keep up with the rapid succession of up-strums. I finished up modding the xbox controller to the down/up configuration and was glad to see that Madcatz implemented it in this version of the controller.
I found the springs used in the wired, Xbox version to be way too stiff and they did not loosen up after a excellent amount of playing time so I replaced them with different springs but never could find one with just the right amount of tension. The springs used in this controller feel much less stiff than the xbox ones but I haven’t opened up the controller yet to see them.
I was worried that I’d face the same issues with this version of the controller that I did with the Xbox one: stiff springs, clacky fret buttons, but alas, I did not so I’m glad I chose to give it a shot.

This product has quality issues. After checking the blogs, the problems that I was having–getting dropped–was a common conundrum. I called support and they denied the conundrum, so I guess all those blog people never called in which is not what they said on the blog. They would not exchange it until I mailed it in. They have no exchange program like Rock Band itself. I got it to work by connecting the wireless connector to an USB extension and keeping it close to the bass. I like to play the bass to and on the blogs my conundrum was minor and I made it work so I will not exchange it because everyone who exchanged theirs reported that the replacement had problems too.
