I bought this because I wanted to eliminate the need for the chords to eliminate the USB cables, but I did not do enough homework on this product.
Cons
1st – if there are any software updates to your control – it has to be wired into the PS3 to recieve those updates.
2nd – if you have any adjustment issues (like you held the L3 button down while the controler was ‘initialized’) the controler needs to be plugged in so that it can be fixed.
3rd – the charging of the actual controler can only be done while the PS3 is running – never while it is turned off.
4th – only 2 controls can be place on the docking station while to place 2 more you need USB cables
5th – introduction the controls on the docking station must be done gently otherwise you may hurt the USB mini port on the control or the USB port on the docking station.
Pros
1st – The controls do turn off once they are charged (and while charging) so that the batteries in the controls themselves are not conditioned over time.
2nd – The controls are fully charged and stay charged for a while – this is indicated by a red light (charging) and a green light (charged).
3rd – It does eliminate the USB cables
4th – It is a cool looking device and it simply enhances the already awesome look of the PS3 – showing cool colors to indicate charging status and showing the controls themselves.
Had I done a bit more research I probably would not have bought this. There is not anything incorrect with it – I do use it – but it is not needed. Here is a real life example.
Several weeks ago my controls started messing up. They would not initialize right. The buttons would respond sluggishly or not at all. They had not be plugged up with the PS3 in over a week. Well. After several hours of frustration (and contemplating the horror that my PS3 was messed up) I worked backwards from the conundrum starting with the simplest solution – which worked. (thankfully)
I had to plug both controls in (on rotations because I only have 1 USB cable) and I had to re-initialize them with the PS3. Now I charge the controls on the docking station and then every few days I turn on the PS3 and plug up one control and play for a bit – swap – and play with the one that was plugged up. Sounds perplexing but this seems to have fixed the conundrum.
Thank YOU!

I bought this at a local electronics store a few months ago. At first, the lights wouldn’t turn on to indicate it was charging. I knew it was getting potential because I had a bluetooth headset plugged into the side port. After many attempts, I finally got the unit to work (all I kept doing was attaching and removing the controllers). It worked well for about a week then completely bunged effective again. I haven’t succeeded in getting it to charge again. Ironically, now the green light just flashes repeatedly even though there isn’t a controller attached to it. Judging by the other reviews, I may have simply bought a faulty unit but I’m not about to dissipate another $30 to find out.

Not to place down on this product but the price has gone from last I checked $29.99-39.99 to $114 this is not guitar hero this does not have enough bells and whistles to be even remotely close to being priced so high. I am not one to write a review unless it truly deserves one but I feel the need to inform people of the dramatic price increase. There is no need for something that does so small to cost so much. In all reality anyone who has a PS3 has a remote charger (the PS3) this may look better than a hanging wire but I do not believe I should have to spend $114 on something that serves no purpose I cannot already do other than add a small spice to my system. I hope Amazon see’s this blatant rip off and corrects it.

It has fried my controller after 4 days of regular use, is expensive and excellent looking but certainly it may harm your controllers.
Now my controller does not charge anymore, so is death
So in the end I will continue using the PS3 to charge my controller.
Not recommended, don’t dissipate your cash
