This PS3 160GB upgrade is very nice. It brings my PS3 up to the contemporary system (on the store shelf) storage capacity.
The mechanical install was a piece of cake. The only tool needed is a small phillips screwdriver.
Getting the hard guide or my system to function (post install) was a different tale. When you remove the ancient hard guide, you also remove the operating system of the PS3.
The work around is to go to the Sony Playstation website (http://www.us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3) and download the latest system to a pin guide (follow the directions carefully setting up the file) then plug into the PS3. With the other USB port, plug in your game controller. Then follow the on screen directions.
All in all, this 5 minute job took about 1 hour. If you are not technically savvy, get a friend that is or else you may get very frustrated.

When it comes down to it this is a dissipate of your hard earned cash. While it is certainly a excellent thought to upgrade your console to a larger harddrive this is not the best option. In this package you are getting a 160gb and instruction video for the price of $89.00.
On average a 160gb by itself would run about $45. The extra $43 in the price of this product is for 1) The instructional video and 2) the PS3 name on the outside of the box (your average marketing tactic).
Instead of investing your cash into somthing that you will want/need to upgrade later I strongly suggest spending even less cash and buying somthing with twice the storage, the Western Digital 320GB Scorpio which you can find here:

This harddrive, at the time of this review, is only $59! That’s $30 less with 320gb instead of 120gb! While you may not get the (overpriced) instructional video you are investing in something that will last. Furthermore you can find a plethora of both websites and videos online that will take you owing to the same steps for free. Try the Playstation forums!
The process in changing it out is, over all, very simple. Give it a shot, I know you can do it!
Also just so you know, the upgrade kit give you the promise that it “won’t void your warranty” but neither will any other HD installation!
