This game is fun, and mazey. There are a lot of items you have to pick up by the side of the way and you always have to read the scrolls. I in fact finished up going backwards at one point in the game and didn’t know what I’d done incorrect. (The game goes from the left to right to right to left back and forth, and that is the mazey part). Another complaint I have is that the sands of time instrument is pointless. You reflect, “oh yay! I can reverse time and not die!!” WRONG. You reverse time only to watch yourself die again and hear the horrid social class music once again. But, I can’t blow if off completely because, the sands of time instrument is useful about 1 out of 10 times.
With disregard to all that, this game is pretty fun, and I would recommend it….Unless you get lost simple and are usually tempted to give up.

I really and truly wanted to like this game. I could have returned it in the first week, but chose to keep it because I liked the beginning. I’m sort of regretting that choice.
First the excellent stuff, the characters look nice and control pretty well. You get to control the prince and unlike the other versions, the princess. In that respect, it was like a better executed version of Kim Possible 3: Team Possible. There are also some pretty decent boss fights vs a Griffin and with some exceptions the controls are tight.
Though not the central theme, combat is pretty excellent. You’re mostly using your bread knife or the bow and arrow for Farah. The prince is much better rounded when it comes to combat, employing double-jumps, time reversal, time slowing, time freezing, and more. Some enemies can be a small tough, but if you work at it you can find their weak spots. In boss fights you often have to use the Sands of Time to cause hurt. For a GBA game, it’s not the flashiest available, but is pretty well executed.
If so many excellent things, why am I so disappointed? Well, for one thing the length of time between checkpoints gets very tedious. You’ll often be questioned to make a leap of faith or need to figure out how to get past an obstacle and end up dying repeatedly. That wouldn’t be so terrible, but the game will often set up three to four of those puzzles in a row, so you have to play owing to the first tough one to get to the next, die a few times, then do the third, die another half dozen times, then finally die again a few more times to finally make it to the save point. This is made worse because some of the puzzles require waiting a small while, so you can’t just rush owing to them to the next. It gets ancient VERY quickly. I found myself having to stop after a checkpoint, turn off the machine and do something else, then come back or else I got so bored I just ran the prince off of ledges, not caring at all. Your mileage may vary, depending on how much of a tolerance for replaying make pleased.
The switching between the prince and Farah is pretty sloppy. You can only change when you’re standing in certain places. Mostly this is excellent so you aren’t jumping or hanging on something while you change, but at times the choice to not let you switch is inexplicable and can even mean you have to backtrack owing to dangers (possibly being injured to the point you can’t complete or dying outright) just because the character you took wasn’t the one the developers wanted you to take; you are given small to no suggestion which to use in any given spot. That leads to another conundrum, there are parts of the game that are ambiguous, especially relating to the Sands of Time themselves. You have a go that lets you rebuild broken structures for example, but telling when you can use it is a lot about trial and error; the trial and error are especially vexing because you need to use a significant amount of sand to try the go and many times it’s in very small supply. Expect to play parts of levels over and over and over and over again.
By and large, can you play this game? Yes. You can play it and probably end it having at least a honest amount of time. It’s not dreadful, just disappointing. If you get this one you won’t be cursing owning it, but you also won’t be jumping for joy. Are there better GBA sports meeting out there? Yes! Sports meeting like the Metroid series, any of the Turtles sports meeting, Teen Titans, or even Worms World Party would probably be a better buy.
Update:
I just found this out so I wanted to add in case anyone does get this game. Collecting the medal shard things is very vital. The game doesn’t really clarify this very well, but they are used to open some bridges late game. I was wondering around for a couple hours trying to find my way and hitting dead ends, that was the cause. Apparently, you’ll find them located in differently colored rooms on your map; I haven’t had time to go back owing to the game to look. Buy a guide or get one for free on the Internet, but don’t go in blind. Some people have even made maps of the levels like you can find for the original Metroid game (unlockable by beating Metroid: Zero Mission). It’s helpful.

10 Years ago I played their first PC version. That was the Original version and then tried the version 2 and loved it a lot. I recently got this latest version. Wanted to try if it still got it. I was blown away with all the splendid graphics, sound effects and sequences. Has to be the best Price ever.
Anyone who enjoys action adventures should try this game and I can promise him or her without a doubt that they would delight in every moment of it.
