Playstation 3 InCharge Dual Charge Station

- Does not interfere with gameplay
- very light weight
- simple to use, simply place the controller onto the base
Product Description
The InCharge for PS3 charger allows you to simply place your Playstation PS3 Wireless Controller in the charger and charge it with ease. It works with both the SIXAXIS and the Dualshock controllers. The InCharge for PS3 is superior to other rechargeable solutions, it uses a contactless inductive charging solution rather than metal contacts to charge each PS3 controller. No more checking to see if the friend points are lined up correctly. No longer will you need to plug your wireless controller in, but if your array is running low you can still charge it while playing by plugging into Playstation 3.

When I first bought this PS3 controller charger, I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.
Now I feel the need to void my feelings.
Sony changed the potential/charging supplies for their Dualshock 3 controllers at some point, which means the incharge charging station no longer works with all PS3 controllers.
The conundrum is systemic of the incharge charger itself.
The USB standard provides 5 volts, and while I don’t reflect it specifies contemporary availability, it’s usually around 500mA per port. The PS3 controllers charge happily on USB ports that are equal to or exceed 500mA.
I’m guessing the incharge controller is probably not able to productivity the right amount of contemporary to initiate a charge, something I plot to verify once I buy an ammmeter.
My guess is validated by the fact that the incharge AC adapter is rated for 5v 500mA. Some of that contemporary is lost due to the electronics, and inefficiencies in the induction coupling, meaning the PS3 controllers wouldn’t have a full 500mA available to them.
This would mean the incharger is defective by design.
I sent them an email, and haven’t received a comeback in 3 affair days. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, and give them an extra day or two, then I’m taking this up with the Better Affair Bureau.
I want to believe Tekno Creations is a reputable company, stand behind their harvest, and will back them up when they produce a defective product. It’s certainly not Sony’s fault – their controllers work just fine on any other charger that supplies the right amount of contemporary.
This is why I usually only buy USB charging/powering systems that supply 1A (minimum). Unfortunately the package the incharger came in didn’t allow for me to check the contemporary of the AC adapter, nor did it state so on the package.
For now, I’ll consider this a lesson learned, but I still hope to get satisfactory resolution – induction-charging is exactly what I wanted – I don’t like having to plug and unplug USB cables – they wear quickly and are easily hurt, and I absolutely refuse to buy Nyko’s harvest.

For those of you who are annoyed by the fact the PS3 will not charge your controllers when powered off, this is the exact accessory to solve you conundrum and does away with the mess of attaching wires to the PS3.
First off I’d like to say this is a very cool thought with a splendid design.
This charger comes with an adapter that clips onto the PS3 controller and allows the controller to charge by just resting on the base. A small hard to clarify but I’ll try:
If you’ve every owned an electric toothbrush you may recall the toothbrush charges without any metal on metal friend – it charges owing to the plastic casing. Well this is the same principal behind this charger.
The charging adapter for the controller plugs into the USB port on the top and wraps around behind with a swivel clip hooking to the bottom.
The design allows you to use the controller with the charging adapter attached and does not interfere with the grip. It’s light enough that the adapter does not throw off the balance of the controller.
The adapter also has a usb port so you can still plug the controller into the PS3 to charge it that way as well.
Another cool part of the design is the controller sits upright when positioned in the charging station which is rare since the usb port is on the top and most chargers require you to invert the controller.
Potential Conundrum:
Now I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to Incharge here and assuming the conundrum is with the controller and not the charging unit.
I have two dualshock controllers (one that came with my PS3 and one bought individually) both bought in Sep 2008. One of the controllers does not charge – not sure which one came with the PS3 since both are identical. But both controllers charge properly when connected to the PS3 or usb port on computer. I tried alternating adapters and alternating the docks but no luck. I even tried hitting the reset button on the back of the controller and reassigning the controller number on the PS3. So I’m a small confused as to why one of the controllers is not charging.
I don’t reflect I have a valid point to warrant returning the controller since everything on the controller works and the controller does charge via the PS3.
Hopefully you will not encounter the same conundrum as I did. If it wasn’t for this issue I would highly recommend this product and give it a exact score.
BTW Incharge also makes these charging stations for the Wii and XBox. I’m not sure if the opinion is the same.
