Product Description
Dance Dance Revolution, or simply “DDR” is a dance simulation game that started as an arcade game in Asia. DDR finally made its US debut on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 in March 2001 and has been rapidly gaining in popularity, especially in California. It’s a unadorned-to-know, hard-to-master, and highly addictive game. The In The Groove Dance Pad is the exact way to delight in your favorite dance sports meeting, like the well loved “In The Groove.” The Pad’s raised, arcade-sized sensors help you max out your combos and do exact attacks. The raised, reinforced buttons ensure you always stay in position, while the dense foam core provides comfort & enhanced pointer.

I bought a RedOctane Ignition 3.0 (a later version of this dancepad), and have never had the opportunity to use it. The dancepad is supposed to be used with several connectors, including USB to connect to a PC. After attempting to connect this dancepad for hours, I sent emails to RedOctane asking them to send me drivers to properly install the dancepad. RedOctane answered to two emails, telling me that their dancepads are “PlugnPlay” and do not require drivers, and that I should update my BIOS and make sure my computer had all its updates. My computer is up to date, and upon plugging this Dancepad into 4 different computers I could still not get it to work. I called Dell customer support, and also spent time with another computer company, who both told me the same thing. PlugnPlay does not mean that a device doesn’t need a driver!!! Nearly every device to come out in the past ten years is PlugnPlay, which means that you do not have to turn off the computer for the computer to recognize the device. I called RedOctane and told them this (I had to search for the phone number on the web), and they told me they couldn’t help me, that their product should play automatically. I was shocked. I have never seen so small commitment from a company to their product before. They offer no customer support for their harvest, and do not stand behind their dancepads at all. After research the conundrum on the internet, I found that many people have had this conundrum. This dancepad is not worth the distress, nor is any RedOctane device. Save your cash.

When I bought this, I had some honest expectations. The only thing this dance pad met was that it had a wire that could connect to my PS2 and that it wouldn’t slide around.
The pad itself is VERY crinkly and it seems nearly baggy, like there’s an excess amount of nylon-plastic. The excellent news is, it’s slightly thicker than the regular thin plastic dance pads (the red-pink-blue ones)
Unfortunately, it makes a loud crinkly noise – similar that of a diaper made from wrapping paper.
The box says “more sensitive” so you’re “less likely to miss” but it’s a bit TOO sensitive. The arrows extend a small farther into the center, so even if you stand in the middle, you’re likely to hit a button that you don’t want to hit.
If you’re a beginner and you don’t have any expectations for a dance pad or you’d like a durable dance pad that’s better than the thinner ones – then you should buy this pad.
But for 14.99, you should be reminded that your expectations shouldn’t be very high.

I bought this pad directly from Red Octane. It’s smaller than the previous one I had (which sadly got torn up after years of use) and doesn’t respond as well.
Pretty disappointing. If you’re going to spend any amount of cash on a dancepad, might as well spring for a metal one.

reasonable pad. I use it about 20 hrs for now and it is OK. Will post if something incorrect happens

Got this dance mat for DDR2 and was not disappointed… with the mat. Turns out the game just isn’t for me – I guess I’m getting a small too ancient for the dance sports meeting as I couldn’t keep up and the tracks just weren’t inspiring me to get with the groove.
But if you do delight in the sports meeting and are looking for a excellent, reliable dance mat then look no further. This one worked splendid and I have no complaints about it. It’s nice and large, simple to plug up, and worked splendid. Responded to every step even on carpet.
