I don’t know exactly why it is, but usually memory devices for game console made by 3rd-party manufacturers are inferior in quality. They are cheaper, of course. But, I experienced a couple times of complete data loss from 3rd-party memories from the time of PS1. The situations were all the same: both 3rd-party and genuine memories were inserted to console all the time, yet only 3rd-party one failed.
Not all 3rd-party memories will fail, of course. Even memories from same company show difference. But, since I haven’t experienced data failure from genuine memories yet, I do recommend you to buy genuine memory, rather than to test your luck.
