I have played turn based sports meeting since Avalon Hill penetrate sports meeting (Panzer Leader, Afika Korps, etc.) The German Campaign seems ok, except for the Soviet Airpower seems too strong. The Linked Campaign is where the distress really starts. By the time of Linked Landings (Anzio, Normandy, Torch) owing to the rest of 1944-45 German airpower was not really a major issue except for large scale bombing during the day. The game in no way historically demonstrates this! Also the Mustang was superior to most German fighters (2-1). Also the Linked armies by Operation Cobra had a 3-1 advantage in materials. The Game is called Panzer Tactics. One would reflect it was a tank battle game? Buy this game if you want to play as the Germans, otherwise forget !

I really delight in this type of game. The military approach type sports meeting seem to have eaten up most of my time on my DS. Advance Wars and Front Mission are two of my most oft played sports meeting. So it was with considerable excitement that I loaded up Panzer Tactics.
Military approach? Check.
Authentic hardware? Check.
Historical accuracy? Check.
Everything I like about video sports meeting seemed to be contained within this plastic cartridge. The graphics are splendid, the music is listenable, and the tale line is engaging. One of the most exciting aspects of this game to me was the ability to play as Not just as the Americans or the Germans, but you can play as the Soviets as well. So with much excitement brewing, I wrapped myself in this game on a slow Tuesday night. I was tired, not anything was on TV, and I had not anything much to do, and hours could be spent brewing up military strategies. I was honestly pleased with this game for about 30 minutes when I realized that I was still on the first mission, and hadnt accomplished much. This game is SO slow moving. Your units dont go far at all per turn, and some of the objectives are many, many squares away! Another aspect that infuriated me was some of the inattention to details. For example in the first mission I played as the Nazis attempting to take Warsaw, Poland. One of the first battles I had was my Nazi airforce of ME109s against some buff up bi-planes. The first battle it was 10 planes vs. 10 planes. On the first swoop, my top-of-the line fighters took out 3 rickety ancient bi-planes, and the WW 1 era buff up airforce took out 5 of my fighters! I had a second set of 10 fighters lined up to go in for the final kill, so this time it would be 10 vs. 7. I like these odds. With the second attack I downed 2 bi-planes, and the Poles for 4 of mine! Impossible! With this, I switched of the game, probably to never play again. Thanks, but no thanks. While the vehicles, maps, and situations may be right, the impossible situations that the CPU was able to pull out of time and time again just seemed … cheap. Don’t buy this unless you have hours upon hours to kill, the patience of a Swiss watch maker and like ridiculously impossible odds against you no matter the situation. I reflect I’ll stick with Advance Wars.

I posted about this game on a video game site this morning. I got this game for Xmas, and I thought it was just a junk throwaway. I assumed it was on sale or something. Anyway, I clicked on it on amazon to see what it costs.
Lo and behold it’s a groundbreaking new title. Seriously, I’ve missed my BART stop three times in a row playing this game. It’s really absorbing. I will probably end up playing it at my desk once my boss leaves. I’ll just prop a book on my lap, a couple on the desk and then make it look like I’m using my blackberry.

Panzer Tactics is a excellent approach game with similar difficulty to the ancient hex penetrate sports meeting. While I like that it’s more honest than Advance Wars, I do wish it had a small more of the simplicity and the ‘human side’ of Advance Wars. While Panzer Tactics is about machinery, Advance Wars feels a small more personal. I get a small more attached to ‘my men’ and a small more sorry when I send them to their deaths.

I like this game alot. It offers a more realistic wargaming experience than Advance Wars but without sacrificing the fun. I just finished Advance Wars 2 the day I took Panzer Tactics of the box and I am having just as much fun, different yes, but equally fun.
I like the depth of variety in units and maps as well as the challenging AI which makes for a satisfying victory. Of couse this game isn’t flawless, but much of what I don’t like about the game is the fact that the DS screens are not large enough to show all of the details and information a game like this could use. But, the developers have done a splendid job of fitting this kind of game on the DS and retaining most of what makes them so addicting.
