Oni
Amazon.com Review
Presume if you could walk down the aisle the adventure and acrobatics of the Tomb Raider sports meeting to the martial-arts action found in pure fighting sports meeting like Tekken. If you have a clear picture of what that would be like, you’ve got a handle on Oni from Bungie Studios. It’s a third-person-perspective action-adventure fighting game, but with a distinct Japanese animation (anime) flavor.
The tale concerns the TCTF (Technology Crimes Task Force) police sometime in the future. Konoko is an operative with a cybernetic uplink to a small girl android named Shintama. She becomes entangled in the hunt for a criminal named Muro and his hulking bodyguard, and her battles with his thugs rage owing to office buildings, chemical plants, an airport, and even the TCTF headquarters itself.
It’s a simplistic tale–high on the melodrama, but perfectly in keeping with its anime intent. Like the tale, the action serves that goal as well. Oversized rifles, bizarre rocket launchers, plasma cannons, and freeze guns make up the arsenal, and, should those run out of ammo or get knocked from one’s hand, fists and feet complete the set. Konoko can do a multitude of honestly simple-to-go flips, combos, and devastating punches and kicks. Combat is fierce and always challenging, yet never dull. And the animations are flawless and fun to watch, while never being overly gory or tasteless. Reflect of the jaw-dropping combat in The Matrix and you’ve got a taste of the action in Oni.
The only real flaw is the save-point system used in the game. The game is divvied up into bite-sized chapters, and it automatically saves at the beginning of each one. But, there’s small reason not to allow one to save anywhere, and a few of the save points are too far apart. Repeating large sections of the game multiple times becomes a chore and detracts from the game’s pace.
If you can get past the repetition, you’ll find Oni a refreshing kung-fu alternative to the typical run-and-gun action gaming fare. And you’ll find Konoko herself a fascinating protagonist to boot (pun intended). –Andrew S. Bub

Set in the year 2032, Oni is the tale of Konoko, an elite agent of the Tech Crimes Task Force who is on a quest to infiltrate and ruin a ruthless crime syndicate. The game puts the player in a world that can be imagined as a blend of action thrillers, such as La Femme Nikita, and classic anime, such as Ghost in the Shell. As the game progresses, Konoko wrestles with the terrible secrets of the underworld, confronts the frailty of her own identity, and discovers that she can trust no one.

It’s really sad that this game was at a disadvantage as soon as it was released due to it being long overdue from Bungie. But, it is probably one of Bungie’s best sports meeting. It had one of the most engrossing storylines of their sports meeting probably with only Myth and some of the Marathon series being in the same area as it. The fighting was splendid in this game, the weapons were fascinating and varied. It was so sad though it had no multiplayer in the end but by and large it is a release player game that I have gone back to time and time again.

Oni is the sort of game that I wanted to be playing when Tomb Raider came out. Oni is a exact blend of 3rd person action and approach, with tale shape that in fact give the game some depth. Konoko is the sort of main character that could knock Lara Croft off her pedestal in an instant!

I just wanna say that as hard as it may to believe, this game is not as hard as it sounds. I got about halfway owing to lvl 4 (on hard difficulty) with using a touchpad. A TOUCHPAD! do you have any thought how hard that is? well, once uv adept the moves a small bit, it isn’t all that hard. But, halfway owing to lvl 4, i got the chance to buy a new 2-button mouse, and let me tell you, if have distress playing the game with that kind of mouse, well……you need a lot of practice. But anyways, besides from the MINOR difficulty it possessess, this game also has all the cool combos of a fighting game, more sneaking around (if you want to) than any James Bond game ive ever played, and some pretty sweet guns. But, if you don’t like sneaking up behind someone to break their back, stomp on their head, grab their gun and blow their brains out, than don’t bother playing, cuz thats what this game is ALL about. And lemme tell you, this game has got the tale as well, that’s right. No mindless wandering with no plot, this game makes you really get into it with constant twists and cool fights. And if you like anime, buy it anyways.
