The game freezes when I try to play a ranked online game on the PS3 and when I am able to connect, i will get disconnected in the middle of the game. There is also alot of blurs in the social class when you’re running the break on online sports meeting. Also I can’t believe it doesn’t have LOBBIES, how are you suppose to play against a friend. This is truly unacceptable for a 2K Sports franchise. If 2K doesn’t come out with a update to fix these problems, I will be mandatory to look at LIVE 08 for this year and in the future.
But the sports meeting does have some excellent areas, like the graphics are brilliant. I’ve noticed in the game if you leave anyone open for like a 15 footer, he will make it nearly all the time. Even for a huge man like Bynum or Olden, when did they become outside shooters. This game is more realistic, you don’t see guys running the quick break and doing a 360 tomahawk dunk over someone like 2K8. To me I gave this game a 2 Star, but without problems like freezes and LOBBIES, I woulda given it a 4 Star.

First of all the graphics are splendid on the game the gameplay is outstanding, my only complaint is the online freezes when they try to locate an opponent.

I bought this game after reading many excellent reviews from many highly credible sites. I even got it for slightly less than it retails for.
But when I got it and started playing it, I was extremely disappointed.
The graphics aren’t very excellent, so I’m not sure what game the other reviewers were playing (maybe they got this confused with Live 09, which has superior graphics).
During the pre-game show, we’re presented with an announcer that babbles on about pre-game show sort of material. He looks horrible from a graphics standpoint. There’s all this white in his mouth- makes it look like he’s eating a handful of cotton. And all the players seem to have a slight white outline, which is off-putting. After every made shot, it seems like there’s the same net movement animation. The players also feel very “heavy” as the physics seem off.
Combine the terrible graphics (terrible compared to Live 09) with an even worse menu (navigation is nearly impossible, I swear). Also, as the game is playing, the PS3 makes an odd sound (my PS3 has never made this sound before or after playing NBA 2K9), like it takes extra energy to load sports meeting, and even the menu.
So, yeah, I’m not sure what other folks were playing. This game deserves nowhere near an 8/10. I wouldn’t give it more than a 5. And I’m really not just a 2K hater, as I don’t own Live 09 (played the demo, which was also better than the 2K9 demo). And what stinks is that I really, really wanted to like this game (I despised it… played it twice, got fed up with terrible graphics and menus and traded it for Metal Gear Solid 4). I couldn’t even manage to resell this game used to anyone for over $25 dollars (a used version at Gamestop sells for $39).
Just make sure you delight in the demo A LOT before you buy this game. After receiving this hideous game, I bought a used copy of NBA Live 08 for honestly cheap and have been slightly more pleased with gameplay, graphics, etc. (and I’ve found that Live 08 has a slight lag at times even in offline play).
Buyer beware with this one (ie don’t believe everything that you read).

The controls in this game are terrible, especially on defense. The graphics are excellent, the presentation is acceptable, but not splendid. But – the game simply isn’t fun to play. Do yourself a favor – get NBA Live if you want NBA, or College Jewelry (ironically, by the same company as this game) if you just ant a excellent basketball game.

The game is incredible, the best basketball game for the PS3 that I have tried. Ordering from Amazon was a small frusterating this time. Although the shipping was considered free, the US Postal Service took twice as long as UPS or FedEx. Also, I tried ordering something else to include with this order nearly immediately after introduction it. Amazon said the order was already filled and I couldn’t add anything else even though it didn’t ship for 4 more days.
