Product Description
Napoleon: Total War is the newest stage in the analytically acclaimed Total War series from The Creative Assembly. In a vividly detailed, war-torn world, players take upon yourself the role of Napoleon during his extraordinary rise to potential or play as his enemies in an attempt to rewrite history. This epic RTS adventure follows Napoleon’s devastating path of conquest and victory owing to nearly two decades of warfare from the early Italian campaign to the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon: Total War also marks the release largest innovation in the history of the franchise with an integrated multiplayer campaign that allows two players to fight for control of the campaign map and the fate of Europe.

This is coming from a Total War fan (well, at least pre-Empire TW).
Once again, Creative Assembly produces a garbage release. While not as buggy as Empire (not to say that there are no issues), the limited scope, horrible AI, and similarity of units make for a very dull, buggy game that gets ancient real quick. What ever happened to making reasonable AI ? I mean, it doesn’t have to be splendid, but at least make it tolerable ! Instead, CA have chose to try to add multiplayer to substitute for poor AI. As I mentioned above, the relative rigidity of the alliances and the limited number of nations you can control, combined with the monotonous ‘RISK’-like units (cavalry, infantry, artillery) make for a game thats fun the first 2 times you play owing to. But, this wears thin very quickly given the real lack of differentiation within the unit types. No diversity you would see in Rome Total War here.
Conclusion- This game is a certain pass. If it lasts more than a week on your hard guide, I would be surprised.
For the most accurate reviews of the product, don’t read the magazines that are dependent upon the companies for income. Go read their own forums and see what the customers are saying.

For anyone who has seen ink-like blobs of texture during gameplay, its highly unlikely that this game will work on a normal PC(unless it;s alienware) I have a 2009 HP and this game lags and has no soldiers during gameplay. The best way to play is on a laptop or an alienware PC( very exspensive )
In my opinion this is the only total war that can compare with medieval 2, but it cascade small due to the constantly online addition(which gets very irritating), the steam downloads(even though its disc-based) and the AI. But other these three errors, this game ROCKS! I can’t really get into the campaign like I could in medieval but its still excellent and somewhat simpler. The battles very entertaining to watch and the units are more than highly detailed.
I also like the time cycle which makes the game more enjoyable for me.

Hope CA and SEGA can keep up the excellent work.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Even to play the game locally you have to make an on-line account with some multiplayer service called “Steam” and every time you play it the game has to register with Steam. And guess what? The Steam accounts are too busy to log you in! So right now I’m meeting with the game on my hard guide and I can’t play it because of a failure with the service they make you use for copy protection.
I have played Total War from the beginning, own every one except for Empire Total War. And I will >never< buy another product from Creative Assembly or Sega again. Steamed? Yeah, I'm steamed. I've never seen anything so arrogant, don't reward these thieving morons with your cash.
Back it goes.

The game play is nearly exactly like Empire, but their are some nice changes like the better campaign map graphics. Also the auto unit replenishment is awesome.
The battle graphics are not quite as nice as Empire, but it runs much smoother.
Having Historical Generals is cool to! Napoleon, Wellington, Nelson, Ney, Wow?

CA and sega did a hack job with ETW and should have provided this game a cheaper price to make up for the ETW mess. The condition to use steam is also a joke. During a recent trip though asia I learned that the lift copies of sports meeting now have a crack for steam which allows people to buy to lift for a dollar and play the game without ever having to use steam. So basically the only thing steam does is screw over the people who in fact pay the full price for a game. I thought I would never buy another game that uses steam but instead I will just use the steam crack I bought for a dollar to remove the irritating DMR.
