I’ve never played this game so disreguard the star ratings I gave it. I am only writing this review beause while I was scroling down owing to the sports meeting I saw Derek Jetter’s hideous mug. Don’t spoil what could be a splendid game by putting a horrific image like that on the cover!!

This game is really terrible. I got this and MVP Baseball 2005 . MVP Baseball is the real deal. This game is dreadful. My son told me to play the other game (MVP Baseball 2005).

This game is a stinker.
Sure, there are few things that are cool but there are more problems with it than anything else.
First – what’s excellent:
The graphics are incredible. This game in fact looks like a real baseball game. In fact, my wife thought I was watching a game, instead of playing a video game.
The pitching interface is outstanding. Unlike other sports meeting in the past, the engine is far more advanced than just point and press. It’s more challenging and more fun.
Now the terrible:
This game was obviously rushed to production to compete with MLB. The result is that all of the cut-aways are lame. The home run graphics, for example, which should be the coolest part of a baseball video game, are weak and pathetic. The character looks down at the ground, the announcers don’t say much, the crowds hardly react, etc. In the same way, the “show boat” catches are all the same – and look like terrible ballet no less. The celebration at the end of a victory is sad.
Game play is mixed. Fielding is both crazy simple and stupid hard. Your players will make driving or jumping catches that only Ozzie Smith could have made. At the same time, though, simple grounders will roll between your legs or your infield will miss simple pop-ups. What’s most irritating about this is that there is no rhyme or reason to it whatsoever!
Another irritating trait, spoken of here many times, is the past-ball bug. I won’t add much more than to say that it’s really sad.
The GM, Franchise, and Season modes are OK but not anything special. At least your team is paid in dollars and not in points!
Finally, the other issue I’ve taken is that title really didn’t use the ESPN features that it could have, should have, and promised. Noticeably absent is any sort of ‘Baseball Tonight.’ The ESPN football title last year had a Chris Berman highlight real at the end of every game. It was cool. During my first ESPN baseball game, the announcers (another weak part of this title) kept saying “Stay tuned for ‘Baseball Tonight’ after the game.” I assumed, then, that like the football title before, the game would have a recap show.
But there was not anything. Just an end of the game save/continue screen. Now – this wouldn’t be a conundrum at all, except that you hear “Stay tuned after the game” something like 5 or 6 times during a game.
All in all, I’d advise to save your cash for the a different title. It’s better. This game has some excellent things to it, but far from enough.

I must say that I’m very disappointed in this game. I figured I would pick it up because of the 19.99 price tag but that’s about what it’s worth. For starters, the batter/pitcher interface does not allow you to remove the strike zone box which interferes with seeing the pitcher’s windup and locating the ball out of his hand. Secondly, you cannot change the fielding view at all and the one the game gives you is too close. When you’re fielding a base hit in the outfield you can’t tell where the runners are in relation to the base because the screen is really all ears on your fielder. The fielders are also very sluggish and they are all the same, Andrew Jones moves in center with the same alacrity as Mo Vaughn would out there, plus the throwing arms are all the same as well. Randy Johnson’s fastball has the same pop as Tim Wakefield’s. I hope MLB 2006 from 989 sports is a better effort. If you question me High Heat 2004 is the best baseball game ever made, but 3DO went out of affair sadly.
I should have known any game with Jeter on the cover would be a cheap knockoff of real baseball. Go Mets!!

bought this game new in april of 05 and still play it. Mostly GM mode on hard. The players skills are very similiar to the real thing. You can alter salaries and have players sent up or down to the show.
