XBOX360 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL 2K10Amazon.com Product Description
The eighth game in the MLB 2K series, MLB 2K10 celebrates the immortal battle on the baseball diamond between pitcher and batter. Featuring a combination of an extensive updating of features from earlier sports meeting in the series, alongside a range of new play options designed to heighten the experience of both the player on the mound and at the plate, MLB 2K10 is a baseball gaming experience not to be missed. Additional features include, new pitch selection and batter’s swing functionality, multiple game modes ? including franchise and career modes ? and a variety of multiplayer options.
Better Pitching Owing to Analytics Players’ experience at the plate has also been improved in MLB 2K10 owing to a combination of data and new features. Just as with pitchers, batters have access to 2K Sports’ “Insider Edge” data to help them make better decisions in specific game situations based on a variety of stats related to themselves if playing as a expressive of a real MLB player, or the pitcher they face. But the new feature that completely changes the batters experience in “Batter’s Eye.” With this, highly skilled batters can get occasional, spilt second views of what the pitch is going to be. Used in conjunction with new batting functionality like defensive and friend swings, batters can potentially fend off pitches until the count is in their favor, and/or they are ready to make an educated guess at what the pitch is going to be and swing in view of that. As with the pitching analytics available in defensive positions, offensive players have access to a batting analyzer at the push of a button to figure out what they are doing incorrect and right at the plate. Fielding and Baserunning Of course baseball isn’t just about early conflict between pitcher and hitter, so MLB 2K10 gives you all you need to end the play from any place on the field. Fielding and baserunning in MLB 2K10 features simple controls and tons of splendid animations just as in earlier releases, but in this most recent version players can also now cue up the actions of their players while on defense, or from the basepads with unadorned controller inputs. In the case of fielders, once the defensive player is selected, simply press the face button for the appropriate base or cutoff man you want. Once your man makes the stop, he will throw to your chosen spot automatically. This is a huge help, especially when trying to turn a quick double play, or in the case of a ball that makes it all the way to the wall. Cueing up the actions of base runners is just as simple. For example, in the event of a full count where you want to send your runners regardless of the pitch, or during a steal attempt, simply brilliant your base runner(s) and use your game controller’s trigger to set events in motion. If you change your mind you can just as easily send them scrambling back with a the same trigger. Key Game Features

This is by far the worst baseball game i have ever played in my life. I’m 22 i am not being immature about this statement or just bashing it cause i couldn’t hit a homerun. This was seriously the worst baseball game. The pitching rotations make absolutely no sense, the pitcher when your hitting looks like hes 1 inch tall, the ball comes in too quick, when you turn down the pitch alacrity it turns it down for both teams so its completely pointless. The only excellent thing about this game, is the graphics. Outstanding graphics but just a poor effort at making this game. Could have been way more intuitive for the user. “The Show” prevails once again, Time for me to buy a ps3 so that i can delight in a excellent baseball video game for once.

The last review posted someone compared to a game they don’t even own, since they don’t have a PS3 as stated in the review I can only take upon yourself they are reading reviews of the “other” baseball game and not truly giving this a chance.
I like MLB 2K10, I like it a lot, sure there have been a few bugs here and there but in the video game world I don’t expect perfection, too many variables in baseball to get it all right. The pitching and batting are nearly exact though, they pitching gestures are a hell of a lot of fun to master. Total Control Pitching in fact feels like I have some right say so in the residency of the ball, something point and click has never done for me. Total Control Batting is pretty tough to master, I am playing a franchise at the Pro difficulty level and I suck pretty much, I can pitch a shut out but can’t muster more than 5 hits a game, which I guess is pretty realistic. Fielding is a mixed bag, some of the animations are goofy, and maybe this is just me but I get a slight stutter on my screen after the ball is hit, none of this effects how much fun it is to play, but worth mentioning.
Graphics and presentation are top notch. Lighting effects are splendid and the movement of the sun during those late afternoon sports meeting looks splendid AND realistic. Player models for the superstars are splendid, but bench warmers have a pretty generic look to them. Ball physics have been spot on for me so far and the crowd looks OK, not cardboard cutouts, but generic enough to notice.
Commentary rocks, simply place some of the best you will hear in a baseball game.
People get all worked up about stuff like this, in NO WAY am I knocking The Show, from what I know it is absolutely unusual, I chose MLB 2K10 because of Live, it’s that unadorned. I have a lot of friends on X-Box Live, I am always interacting with my friends, chatting etc…as soon as Sony gets off their a$$e$ and implements cross game chat my PS3 will get a lot more like.
I have no problems recommending this game to anyone, it’s a excellent simulation of baseball and most importantly they fixed most of the known issues and it’s a heck of a excellent time.

I have been an avid videogame sports fan and have loved most of the sports meeting out this year (Nhl 10, Fifa 10 etc) but I realize those are EA. With MLB 2k10 I haven’t noticed many glitches with outfielding like many have mentioned. The pitching is splendid this time around. I absolutely like it, I find I can pitch no hitters quite frequently and the pitching is fun. I play the Braves and pitching really works well with all the starting and relief pitchers different pitches. The commentary in the game is pretty excellent by the side of with charming movements of the players etc. I do agree with many that the graphics aren’t so splendid this time around and some of the players look downright eerie! Poor bobby cox looks like mutant lol. I didn’t really care for the new ‘My player mode’, I find that it is quite unrealistic and sometimes you play a excellent game but get in distress for a few minor issues, other times you play terrible and everything is ok and you’re told it’s ok and to hang in there next time will go better for you?? It isn’t a terrible addition but being only able to play bits and parts just feels eerie to me in person but I’m sure some will delight in building a character etc. The worst issue I have with this game is the batting, it is absolutely AWFUL, I cannot get a run no matter what I do! I have adjusted the sliders to make it simple also and it still doesn’t help. The only time I can hit normal is when you do military exercises but in game? Nope. Some might say ‘You just stink at batting’, well, I’ve never had an issue with any baseball sports meeting before this one 2K, EA etc!!!! 2K just can’t seem to get it right. They fix one area (pitching) and another suffers (batting). I really wanted to like this game, I have been looking forward to it all year and was hoping it would be splendid but sadly it’s my last 2k sports game. Why couldn’t this be splendid like NHL 10 and Fifa 10 are?!??!?!! I really wish EA would make a splendid baseball game like they did for soccer and hockey! I am simply frustrated and keep trying to talk myself into playing it again but sadly It’s just not a excellent game because when you play baseball your hitting should be as excellent as your pitching.

Like another reviewer mentioned, I won’t compare this to MLB The Show since it’s not available for Xbox 360.
Gameplay
In my opinion, the most vital aspect of a game is its gameplay. MLB 2K10’s gameplay is pretty excellent. Its largest new feature this year is Total Control pitching. At first, I didn’t like it and it frustrated me. But, the more I’ve played, the more it has grown on me. For lack of better words, you control everything. The thrill is that you have excellent timing and precision, you will get batters out. There are no flukes with this pitching system. The only downside is it requires a lot of focus for each pitch. But if you’re looking for a more casual experience you can always change the controls to use buttons instead of gestures.
I’m less of a fan of the new hitting system, Total Control Hitting. While I feel precision and timing works splendid for pitching, doing it with batting at a higher (All Star) difficulty level is painful. To get an extra base hit or a home run you literally have to have near exact aim and timing (this very rarely happens). The excellent news is that you can revert to 2K9’s system, which is simpler to use. One hitting feature I’m a fan of is Batter’s Eye. It makes excellent vision players like Kevin Youkilis more effective by telling you what kind of pitching is coming occasionally.
As far as different game types, they’re standard fare for modern baseball sports meeting. The primary difference is My Player. It’s similar to a regular Franchise mode except you control a release player. Not a huge difference from a Franchise but anyone that likes Franchises will also like My Player. There are also a variety of other modes including Franchise, Home Run Derby. and more.
Like most other 2K sports meeting, the AI is strong. Whether a pitch is hit is based on a variety of factors you’d expect like timing, the pitcher’s skill, and the hitter’s skill. What’s really unique is 2K’s Inside Edge scouting. They have a huge amount of information for each hitter. Stuff like how aggressive they are for each count, how well they do against certain pitches, and more. The same is right for pitchers.
Graphics and Presentation
Not a strong part of the game. They don’t detract much for me, but if you’re looking for an impressive visual experience, I wouldn’t get this game. With that said, the players and stadiums are moderately detailed but it’s tough to compare to the graphics of MLB The Show (I know I said I wouldn’t compare).
The presentation is also pretty standard for a game. As of the time I write this, there a bunch of presentation bugs that don’t affect gameplay but can be a small irritating. But, 2K has a history of fixing these bugs in future patch releases so I wouldn’t let this deter you.
Sound
The commentary is both impressive and irritating. What’s impressive is how much unique commentary there is. Even though some of it is a small generic it has more variety than most other sports sports meeting. What’s irritating is that the announcers talk too much. I’m a fan of announcers like Pat Summerall and Mike Gorman (Boston Celtics) who know that brevity is vital (kind of ironic compared to how long this review is). The announcers sound like they’ve downed a 6 pack of Jolt, coffee, or any other stimulant of choice.
The soundtrack has some decent selections if you like pop/alternative rock (I like Phoenix, Social Distortion, Sugarhill Gang) but I’d say it’s too small compared to other sports sports meeting.
By and large
Not anything revolutionary here. If you’re a fan of baseball sports meeting, you’ll probably like it. If you also own a Playstation 3 you might want to look at MLB The Show, too.

First off let me say that i’m a long time fan of The Show for the PS3. Last year I bought the PC version since it was only $19.99 on Amazon. This year I went with the 360 version and boy what a difference a year makes.
You maybe asking how excellent? Much better than 2K9 but still not as excellent as The Show. This franchise is finally moving in the right management with Virtual Concepts developing the game.
MLB 2K10 is not as bug filled as last years game but at times it looks sloppy especially when it comes to middle animations on the field. More importantly the AI in 2k10 plays much smarter, is more aggressive on the base paths and will try and pick you off on first after calling for a pitch out it you happen to have your baserunner leaning towards second.
One AI flaw that was in last years game has been fixed. The AI will take strikes in the strike zone but will also swing at pitches if they are looking for a specific pitch you just happened to serve up.
Graphically the game looks real nice. The colors are bright and uplifting but less realistic than the graphics on The Show. Jaggies are also present but they don’t look too terrible.
Where the game excels and nails it is in the Presentation dept. The audio by Gary Thorne, Steve Phillips and John Kruk. While the audio will eventually get repetitive it makes up for it with MLB Today. Just like in NBA 2K10 you are kept up to date on the happenings in your MLB Season as it progresses. It’s simply awesome to watch it unfold just as it is does on NBA 2K10. This is where The Show is lacking. The three man team always sounds energetic and natural and they never sound out of place while ration up MLB info from the past and contemporary Season. Also with MLB Today you can play actual sports meeting for that particular day, nice touch just like NBA 2K10.
This by no means is a definitive review but at least it should give you thought that 2K10 is not a garbage game like it was with 2K8 and 2K9.
