Pluto has been dog-napped by the Weazles, and it’s up to Mickey and friends to race across the USA to rescue him. Drivers include Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pete (the villain in Mickey’s Racing Adventure for the Game Boy Affect). There are five circuits, each of which has three tracks plus a hidden fourth track. The fifth circuit can be unlocked only by collecting hidden items in the first four circuits. The twisting courses feature coins, potential-ups, shortcuts, and alacrity boosts. Up to four players can race simultaneously via a split screen, or duke it out in battle mode.

For a racing game that is just supposed to be fun… it wasn’t. The tracks are perplexing, especially in multi-player mode. The sound effects (voices) while racing are irritating. The “camera” angles make it hard to see the track ahead. All around, it just was not a whole lot of fun.
As a fan of Mario Kart, I was expecting more of the same, but maybe a small different. Mickey’s Speedway is a very terrible spin-off of Mario Kart.

I’m a huge fan of kart racing sports meeting that also have battle modes such as “Mario Kart 64,” “Looney Tunes Racing, and “Diddy Kong Racing.” Rareware is a company that has made many of the best sports meeting on the Nintendo 64 and one that usually takes the extra step when it comes to graphics and gameplay in video sports meeting with such titles as “Banjo-Kazooie” and “Diddy Kong Racing,” so I was expecting “Mickey’s Speedway USA” to be a splendid game. But, I found out that I couldn’t have been more incorrect. This game is without a doubt the worst game that Rareware has ever made.
“Mickey’s Speedway USA” features some of the familiar faces from Mickey Mouse’s world such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, etc. The mission is to race across the USA in a few different stages in order to find Pluto. The graphics in the game are subpar to the usual Nintendo 64 standards, the control is decent, the sound is offbeat, and the fun factor and replay regard just isn’t there at all. I didn’t like the racing in it at all, but I thought that the Battle Mode would at least be somewhat fun. Again, I was incorrect. The battle modes are huge areas that aren’t even fascinating to battle in, and there’s not that many weapons to battle with either. Baseballs, homing rockets, extra bursts of alacrity, and a couple of other items are the only ones that are available to use in Battle Mode or Racing Mode.
Kids will certainly like “Mickey’s Speedway USA” a lot better than experienced person gamers will. My small brother and sister like just about every video game they play, but after playing a few races and battles, they didn’t even want to play this game anymore, that’s how terrible it is. I don’t recommend this game at all, but it might be excellent to get for young kids who like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and the other Disney characters.

This is a very fun game with an appropriately challenging level for all ages. The beginner level is exact for younger kids who don’t know all the moves, while the more advanced levels challenge the kids (and adults) who like to try sliding around corners and using the weapons. It’s not MarioKart, but nearly as much fun. I didn’t realize there is a “goal” to all the racing though. In MarioKart you get a trophy ~ in MS USA it’s not obvious what you get if you win all your races (we’ve never really gotten that far). But even without the rescue theme, it’s a fun racing game the whole family can delight in.
