Product Description
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world. When a potential-hungry tyrant messes with Venezuela’s oil supply he sparks an invasion that turns the country into a war zone. But for you, international crisis is all upside: You are a mercenary, and you profit from chaos. You are not a soldier. You don’t have to play by anyone’s rules. You have your own code: you will discharge the terms of the contract, no matter what. If you see it, you can buy it, steal it, or blow the living crap out of it. Play your own way, or play with the help of a friend in the new co-op multiplayer mode.Amazon.com

I downloaded the PS3 demo on this and couldn’t believe that anyone would release something this terrible with all the splendid stuff out there now. This is splendid for the kids, but come on, how can you get into this after CoD4, Terrible Co., GhostRecon, and Assassin? If you can, more potential to you, I like to encourage progress myself, not regression. I’ll save my bucks for the guys who place something into the game. I tried to find some excellent points but just couldn’t. Rock n Roll, baby.

I tried to play the game but it would freeze up so I didn’t get to play.

This is in fact my son’s game so I can’t note much on the actual play but as I watch him I’m quite impressed by the graphics. I see him play many PS3 sports meeting and I reflect this one has the best graphics by and large.

Mercenaries II is an addictive shoot-em-up, and the graphics look incredible when you’re blowing up buildings–and you’re always blowing up buildings in this game.
I took a point off for three reasons:
1)The game is just as glitchy as Mercenaries I. If you try to pass over a wooden bridge (or even the small bridge in front of the PMC HQ) at alacrity, your vehicle will either do a back-flip or careen into a management that defies physics. Also, when taking an outpost, your reinforcements want to man the emplaced weapon, hop the tank, smell the flowers…anything but go into the stupid building like they’re supposed to do. In themselves, these are not honest glitches; but they do get irritating when you add them up.
2)Too much realism…In Mercenaries I, I could justify shooting Linked Nation soldiers occasionally because I assumed I was only shooting the French and German ones (kidding…sort of). But in Merc II, it’s clear that AN troops are really just Americans, all the way down to the ACUs they wear. As a Guardsman, it’s a small unsettling to be shooting my own. I mean, I do it anyway in order to get 100% completion, but that’s even more unsettling, now that I reflect about it.
3)Politics…I reflect this game insults oil companies more than South Americans (I wouldn’t know, though, not being either), but let’s look at the players:
a)Hugo Chav…er, Solano, a businessman-cum-dictator;
b)Universal Oil, who have raped the country for their own evil capitalist gain;
c)The PLAV, insignificant “freedom-fighters” who have become caricatures of themselves;
d)The pirates, asinine Jamaicans who smuggle rum and parrots, mon;
e)The US..er, Linked Nations, whose soldiers only know the words “whoa”, “dude” and “hey”, and so are obviously all teenagers sent to fight for an uncaring, oil-addicted capitalist nation;
f)and…the noble Chinese, who speak proper English and whose soldiers, in their spare time, practice martial arts in front of the Chinese HQ. Their leader, Colonel Peng, is the only leader with any distinction in the game, according to whatshername, the girl who’s always reading the blogs, you know, the independent sites, and can’t stop telling you about it.
All in all, Merc II is a fun game, but obviously Made in China.

It is nice to be able to blow everything up. I like the ability to land on boats with a helicopter and steal the boat, and I like the fact that it draws objects really far away. With this game, though, the glitches and **stupid button combinations you have to do to hijack vehicles** (I won’t buy a Mercenaries 3 because of this) kind of make you want to blow the game itself up. The NPCs are dumb as toast. Getting them in and out of vehicles was simpler in the first game. The physics seem to be only slightly better than the first game.
Bottome Line: This game can be a lot of fun, its got some re-play regard as well, but its not worth $60. Factoring in the frustration from being kicked off a tank time and time because you didn’t press X quick enough, and having civilians leap out at your speeding vehicle like depressed lemmings, this game is worth about $15-$20
