MDK 2
Editorial Review
Playing MDK2 is like riding a roller coaster or watching a excellent action movie. In fact, fighting aliens has never been this much fun.
You start the adventure as Kurt, a human in a Batman-like suit equipped with some loopy but lethal accessories. Kurt packs a powerful chain gun and a built-in parachute for gliding around levels. Kurt also has access to a unadorned-to-use sniper mode that allows you to smoothly zoom between multiple magnification levels (1x to 75x) for long-range kills. As the game progresses, you’ll eventually be able to control Kurt’s six-legged dog, Max. This is no ordinary housebroken pet. This not-so-cuddly creature can carry up to four guns at once for immense firepower. In addition, Max uses a jetpack to glide around (à la Boba Fett of Star Wars fame). Finally, there is Dr. Hawkins, who uses his scientific skills to combine common household objects into weapons of mass destruction. The diversity (and strangeness) of these characters adds a unique twist to the otherwise conventional gameplay.
Most of the environments you’ll encounter in MDK2 are rendered in dark colors–perfectly suited for showing off the game’s outstanding lighting effects. The graphics by and large are crisp, incredibly detailed, and brimming with personality. Copious cut-scenes are rendered using the game’s 3-D engine, which lends much drama (not to mention comedy) to the storyline. This is one of those rare sports meeting that is as fun to watch as it is to play, and it belongs in the library of any action fan with a Dreamcast. –T. Byrl Baker

If I could I would give this game -10 stars. Oh, the graphics are fine, and the game is “fun”, but doesn’t count for its difficulty. The first level is complex, horrific, loathesome… shall I go on? The title doesn’t stand for “Massively Hard Kurt”, but it should. The Best Feature: Being Able To Turn It Off The Worst Feature: Being Able To Turn It On

I went to the software store in search of a new and exciting game. I passed up the latest Tomb Raider installment, and Rainbow Six. I thought, Hey I have seen these all before. It is time for something new and different. So there I see in front of me on the shelf with a heavenly light all ears on a jewell case with the cool marketing of a four armed dog and crazy scientist and a rather stealthy looking hero. Looks origional enough? I question the salesman what he thought. He reccommended it raving about its beutiful graphics and exciting gameplay. I bought it. I took it home and keenly openned the packaging and proceeded to load it up in my Dreamcast. WOW! I thought incredible graphics. But wait whats up with this backwards configuration to control movement? What the heck is going on here. Oh my god ! this is really hard. My excitement faded quickly into confusion and dismay. I was getting killed quickly and easily even after mastering the tutorial( the best part of the game by the way). With every turn something more offensivly complicated needed to be dealt with in incredible silky charming graphic eye sweetie. Then the final boss of the 1st level. This was painfully hard and could only be beaten by rainman himself after a six pack of rootbeer. I treid (count ‘em) 77 times and never even got close to beating this thing.Looked cool though. This is the worst game I have ever had the missfortune to have wasted excellent cash on! I absolutely despised it! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! …………………

I’m usually a sports game kind of guy. I usually get too frustrated with Adventure sports meeting because if I’m stuck somewhere, I could be stuck there for a long time (I reflect everyone knows what I mean). Anyway, I remember I saw MDK a few years ago on the PC and I was amazed by the graphics. Since I mastered all the excellent sports sports meeting on the Dreamcast, I chose to buy it.
First off, I don’t really see much of a graphics upgrade from the previous version. Also, the comic book setting aspect is dull and doesn’t really fit with the action (at least with the first level).
Secondly, the gameplay shifts from too simple to too hard. It does do a gifted job of combining a bit of thought with a bit of action, but the controls take forever to master.
Thirdly, there is a frustration factor. I would consider myself an adequate to excellent game player, but I am already stuck on the first boss. I pretty much know how to defeat him, but it’s too darn hard. A game of this difficultly will alienate many casual game players.
Strengths: Unique game play. Combines sniping, thinking, and just excellent ole’ plain action. Graphics are still pretty excellent and original (expertly combines gothic, alien, and high tech sceneries).
Weaknesses: The useless comic book storyline, the hard controls, and the difficulty in general, which causes horribly slow progression.
(Note: these are my early reactions, I’ve had the game for only a few days).

I have played this game and it is awesome. The graphics are splendid. The controllers take a small getting used to though. You get to play with 3 different guys. I recomend this game to other gamers.

MDK2 for Dreamcast, MUST have the best graphics I’ve seen for ANY Dreamcast, N64, or Playstation game. Only thing unrealistic about them is the faces (looks like the faces on Goldeneye for N64). Unfortunatley, it is VERY hard to control the characters, considering you use the X,Y,A, and B buttons to go your guy, and the Analog makes you turn and look or and down. It should be reversed. The storyline isn’t that splendid either (it’s kinda based on comic books). All in all, it’s just an okay buy.
