March Madness 2002
Product Description
One month out of each year is devoted to the insanity of the NCAA playoffs. The annual ritual of March Madness includes dozens of teams, the hottest young players, salivating scouts, preside over-hurling coaches, small schools, huge schools, cheerleaders, the hopes and dreams of thousands of alumni, and, of course, complete TV coverage.
With March Madness 2002, EA Sports brings its college basketball franchise to the PlayStation2 for another year. But despite fidelity to the college game, the result is more of a thud than a bounce. The conundrum isn’t really the game itself. The Play Now exhibition and full-scale tournament modes are fine, and the game includes 150 teams all detailed down to players, uniforms, fight songs, cheerleaders, players, stats, and play styles. You even have the option of making your own team with everything from uniforms to players. The conundrum is what’s missing compared to the competition and to previous incarnations of March Madness on the PlayStation. About 150 teams, the dynasty mode, and even the season mode are MIA! Why are these key features missing? Disappointing, to say the least.
At least the game plays a decent game of basketball and is right to NCAA rules and quirks. It shares some problems–the computer crowds the lane too much–and a graphics engine with NBA Live 2002, but at least the previous rebounding problems are fixed. And the game looks splendid, too, even though most of the players don’t have their real faces like in the NBA version. The audio is also brilliant; the game features unevenly 60 distinctive fight songs, and the crowd roars and quiets down with the action. –Bob Andrews

This game has some of the best graphics I have ever seen. It also has very realistic player movements. The EASports staff really dii a excellent job on this one.

The main reason I bought the March Madness line for PS1 was the women’s team option. Now,it’s gone. And for crying out loud,if EA can accurately depict NASCAR tracks, why can’t they do the same with NCAA basketball arenas?? I rented a copy and was disapppointed. No more buys until the women’s mode comes back.

I played this game on a demo disk, and it was incredible. The graphics were awesome, and the gameplay was extremely realistic.

I can honestly say this isn’t a favorite of most because of small options but I want to choose the contrary outlook.
I have 2 things against it:
1. The largest conundrum I have with it is they place ‘Ol Peanut Scalp Shane Battier on the front.
2. He’s from Duke, and I HATE DUKE!Go Heels!
I like this game very much, I’m not the realistic jewelry virtuoso and unlike some sportsnuts out there I’m not hard to please. If a game has excellent graphics and generally excellent gameplay, this game has it 4-fold,I’ll like it. I also regret to say there is only one other NCAA jewelry game out there, and it’s made by 989 sports, the suckiest developers to ever produce a sports title for any console ever made. NCAA MM 2K2 provides the feeling of a heated jealousy or a highly anticipated confrontation,(Unc vs. Duke, anyone?)and the graphics on the contrary to other beliefs are nicely crisp and clean, so excellent, you’ll reflect you are watching the sports meeting on your TV set. Now, getting to the final gripe that most have bitched about, the Options, the season is suprisingly satisfying because it takes you round by round owing to the tournament even if the regular season doesn’t show. I have an thought whiners out there, take your favorite team, copy their schedule on a piece of paper and play owing to the season checking off sports meeting as you go and keeping track of your record and then, play the NCAA tournament. You’ll delight in this game folks, I guarantee it.

This game was just not fun to me. First of all the game just had a exhibition mode and a tourny mode, and after a while the game gets really dull. They should have of place a Franchise mode or at least a season in there. The graphics were ok, and the best thing was that you could make-a-team. But that was really the only excellent things. I thought both NCAA March Madness 2002, and NCAA Final Four 2002 could have been better. I guess I’ll have to wait untill next year.
