This Logitech Revolution mouse is a high tech device that is the worst mouse I have ever used. All the functions work as advertised. What is terrible is the Logitech driver software. My computer has an Intel Dual core CPU at 2.33GHz performance. I am using WinXP. The performance is so terrible that the computer is often 3 or 4 clicks behind. Often, the computer does not respond to 3 or 4 clicks at all. This Revolution mouse replaced a Logitech MX Laser mouse that had similar problems but not as terrible. I assumed (my terrible) that a newer mouse would have superior performance. When installing the new mouse, I learned that both mice used the same software. The mouse may be splendid but the Logitech software is really poor. I would not recommend this trash or any other cordless Logitech device to my worst enemy.

I’ve had this mouse for years, and it worked amazingly, all the way up until I lost my second receiver for it… stupid me… But, I reflect you may want to look at newer Logitech mice, as I don’t reflect this one is in production anymore and they may have improved them in newer editions. Oh, and by the way, I payed around $80 for it, about 3 years ago… I don’t know why it’s so expensive here.
Why not get this instead? Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution
The Pros:
-The mouse looks splendid! Anyone who saw it was impressed just looking at it.
-Then they used it, and it feels splendid too. The mouse is a small taller than others, but I liked the larger size, was comfortable.
-The programmable buttons are very useful and simple to configure. If you don’t use them, you are being wasteful and unappreciative…haha but really. You can program them for EACH INDIVIDUAL APPLICATION. Sorry for yelling, but even the left and right on the scroll wheel was useful(I used Copy and Paste for use with data entry, Forward and Back for web surfing, PgUp and PgDown for digital music programs… endless possibilities).
-The thumb “ZOOM” wheel was the best, I work with a lot of music, and being able to adjust the volume with that button was very effective.
-The mouse alacrity is excellent, not anything to complain about. I didn’t try to pick apart the DPI and all that, but I thought it was pretty quick. (It says “848nm PERFORMANCE LASER” around the laser, not “HIGH PERFORMANCE LASER” like the picture says)
-The dual mode scroll wheel is splendid. Either charming spinning (can spin quickly and freely), or with the regular scrolling resistance (like your ancient mouse wheel).
-The array life was never a conundrum for me. Just made sure that I place it back on the charger every few days.
The Cons: (minus half a star each)
-The RF receiver is too huge nowadays. It was fine when it was plugged into my desktop, but it seems too huge for my laptop… about the size of a small thumb guide. Always worried I’m going to snap it off. The newer Wireless-RF mice have a mini receiver that you can leave plugged in while transporting… very handy.
-The array charging connection seemed to maybe be going terrible, because the mouse wouldn’t always light up to charge EVERY time I set it in the dock. I might have to wiggle it as I set it down.
I honestly can’t reflect of any more cons. It served me well, and lived a excellent life.
Respectfully yours,
TEG

__DO__ BUY THIS MOUSE __BUT__ (a warning to Mac users)…
I am only posting this review in an attempt to save others from the hours of problems I have had… and since I reflect Amazon is one of the __very best__ internet ’stores’ I would not like you to have to return the mouse as ‘broken’ simply because you can not make the MX Revolution work. Also I am rating this mouse with only 3 stars because I have wasted so much time getting it to work. The mouse deserves 4 1/2 stars but the software driver Logitech makes available deserves less than zero stars… consequently 3 stars. Logitech’s software is __extremely__ limited, and __incredibly__ buggy. Do not take my word for it… read the reviews on Amazon’s site about Logitech’s software and go to Logitech’s own forums and see all of the horrible things users have to say about the drivers.
WARNING FOR MAC USERS!!! You CAN get this mouse to work perfectly BUT…
In my hours of troubleshooting… ONLY if you are willing to buy USB Overdrive will you be able to do this. I’m very honest and I have absolutely no affair or financial relations with USB Overdrive (mouse driver).
It is the ONLY driver that I have found that will reassign all but one of the buttons. (The ‘Search’ button on the top is not coded as a mouse so unless you use an app like ControllerMate that can NOT be used WITH USB Overdrive installed… you can kiss the top ‘Search’ button off… i.e. really useless). And ControllerMate… though a splendid driver… will take you an afternoon to learn how to use it (no kidding… complex). USB Overdrive will even allow you to map the tilt-scroll wheel as buttons so you will have more ‘buttons’ on the top. LCC will not and SteerMouse will not… that is… you will believe that they did but the settings will not stick.
I spent hours trying to get Logitech Control Center to work… don’t dissipate your time. LCC is the proprietary software that comes with the mouse… oh… except for in the case of the Mac driver… it does not even come on the included CD… only the PC software does… Mac users have to go to the Logitech website and download LCC. No huge deal if it worked… but it does not.
Even SteerMouse’s remapped button-commands do not stick and when a button is hard-pressed it may or may not even be highlighted in SteerMouse’s inclination pane dialogue box. So unless you already know what button number SteerMouse will give your command… you will have to do a lot of trial-and-error (i.e. moving back-and-forth between the SteerMouse dialogue box and how it will affect the action you go by clicking on something in the OS).
I have owned a Logitech MX 1000 for years which has been an brilliant mouse, but it is no longer available from Logitech and starts at around $150 on the internet. I am a qualified digital artist. so I really do know my mice (as well as Wacom drug). I say this so you will realize Logitech does make brilliant mice though their drivers have always been pathetic (again… do a search of the reviews on Amazon and Logitech’s own forum and you will see that I am not exaggerating).
I hope this review saves purchasers AND Amazon nightmares and RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations).
I don’t recall ever posting a review before at Amazon so I hope the time I have taken to post this lengthy review helps.
I would say ‘Excellent Luck’… but if you follow my advice you will not need it.
Delight in!
