Kinetica illustrates the point that you need more than alacrity and flashy graphics to make a excellent high-alacrity racing game. Sure, the racing here is quick, but design issues quickly turn it into a wreck of a title.
Like the Wipeout and Extreme G sports meeting, Kinetica features futuristic car designs, a bumping techno soundtrack, and racetracks that defy the laws of physics and logic. In the world of Kinetica, you don’t merely race in cars, you become a car. You race wearing one of several special suits that feature souped-up wheels and engines, and choose from a variety of drivers. Each combination of suit and driver performs differently and withstands varying amounts of hurt. In order to end in a decent place, your racer must locate potential-ups and go stunts in the air and on the ground. Successfully completing a stunt will increase your alacrity boosts. It’s just as vital for you to learn the many alternate routes each track offers. Every other racer is out to get you and will try to smash or disable you in a variety of ways.
Once racing starts, Kinetica crashes and burns. The racing is blindingly quick, which makes it very hard to concentrate on performing the trickier stunts. Often you can’t see far into the space, which leads to normal crashes into parapet and other obstacles. You can easily fall completely off a track because of the overly frantic action. The awkward track design and the number of challenges you face each moment severely limits the fun factor for players. The game also experiences some occasionally drastic slowdowns when more than two racers are onscreen at once. Oh, yeah, I like playing a game racing people with wheels glued to their hands. I completely dislike this game and reflect that It could only truthfully deserve -50 stars, but for some eerie reason, you don’t have that setting. Some qualified game reviewers or verteran game players may disagree or agree with me, when I say that this game is really awesome! For me it has up beat music (Hybrid, Way Out West, and the oh so awesome Juno Reactor to name a few for quick racing. There are no weapons such as lasers, guns, missles, or blades (there is one item that sends a “shock bolt” to other racers, but it only slows them down to 0 mph with no hurt). I don’t like racing sports meeting to have weapons of distruction while you race. The only sports meeting that are cool for that are Kart sports meeting and Twisted Metal. Another cool thing is that the racers are racing in their race armor suits. The wheels are attatched to their hands and feet (most of them) and they lay down and race that way. You can do stunts in the air or on the ground, and it is so fun. I can play this game constantly with no bore. This is of course just me. I really reflect that this game was custom made for me alone, thats how much of a poerfect game for me this game is, in the racing category. It nearly feels like you are in the world of the movie “The Fifth Element.”
So if you like flashy stunts, quick non-combat racing, upbeat music, and quick racing, this game is one you should check out. I only wish it was 4 players, it still rocks though.

I don’t like racing sports meeting. I used to, then Gran Turismo 3 came out, which I reflect is a horrible excuse for a fund of entertainment. Ican’t stand that game. And because of that game, excellent racing sports meeting have bunged coming out. Then, I saw an advertisement in a magazine for this game called Kinetica, and I thought to my self “Heavens to Betsy, it’s an imaginative racing game that isn’t copying GT3! I must have it!” So I went and plopped down my …. When I got it home to play, it was even better than I was expecting. This game is so simple to just pick up and play, no hard to learn stuff, no ultra sensitive controls, just plain fun. The game moves ridiculosly quick, going at speeds up to 300 mph, and that’s without boost! Also, the addition of tricks and potential ups sweeten the deal even more. It’s fun on 2-player, as well. The tricks take a small getting used to, but I selected it up pretty quickly, and I … at video sports meeting, so anyone else should get it right off the bat. I encourage anyone who wants some excellent arcade racing action to pick this game up, it’s worth your cash.

This game is kinda fun for the price. I only paid $8 that’s with shipping. If you like racing and you just want it in a different form, then you’ll like this game. It’s simple and unadorned. you just race. Would not pay more than $10 though.

Sure there is alot going on, and at times the action can be hard to keep up with, but…it’s fun to play…the tricks look really cool…and it’s a challenge. The graphics are honestly decent, but don’t forget this is an early generation PS2 game…Also, the soundtrack is splendid…I like Trance/Progressive stylishness music so I may be a bit biased..features tunes by: Juno Reactor, Hybrid, Amoeba Assasin, and more.
So, by and large if you’re looking for a “fun” game that is quirky and futuristic then give Kinetica a try.
