JoJos Bizarre Adventure
Editorial Review
Are you sick of fighting sports meeting that require months of practice just to master the basic moves? Try JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, a side-scrolling 2-D fighting game that puts the focus squarely on kicking butt. And by the side of with the splendid controls and colorful graphics that look like they were ripped straight out of a cartoon, players are treated to a honestly entertaining tale as the game progresses.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure adds a few more twists to the standard 2-D fighting genre, and the weirdest are the sidekicks called Stands that each player has. These familiars occasionally penetrate the fray when the action heats up, and combined attacks with the characters and the Stands are the most powerful in the game. The onscreen action can get a small perplexing since so many things are happening at once, but the simplistic controls help keep things manageable. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is not the best 2-D fighting game ever made–in fact, in many ways it seems downright dated when compared to superior 3-D fighters such as Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2. But, if you are in quest of a unadorned fighting fix, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure does make a solid and colorful addition to the Dreamcast lineup. –T. Byrl Baker
Pros:
- Cartoon graphics and tale line
- Unadorned controls make the game simple to learn
Cons:
- Not a deep enough fighting game for purists

I got it for 10 bucks and it’s still not worth it. The graphics aren’t excellent, the characters are just stupid, and it’s not fun.

I give Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure a thumbs up for originality (some very colorful characters and special attacks here), but I reflect the game is otherwise mediocre. The graphics and animation are not more than average (compared to sports meeting like Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter Alpha), and the game itself is not much fun to play. If you want a excellent 2D fighting game for your Dreamcast, get one of the Marvel vs Capcom or Street Fighter titles. The only people bound to delight in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure are 2D fighting freaks. Others will probably regret their buy.

This isn’t the most complex fighter out there, and its far from the best, but it can still be fun and is also a excellent game to get someone into fighting sports meeting who would normally stay away from them since they always get beaten harshly whenever they attempt to play one against a friend. Unlike the Streetfighter sports meeting and SNK fighters, this one is more cartoonish (its based on some anime I believe), it is also different in its attacks. Unlike most fighting sports meeting where you have several punch and kick buttons, each character has several attacks really different from the other characters (one character can throw pots and pans, while another can shoot a gun where you can guide the bullets path for example)
The disc itself has two versions of the game on it, one is Jojos venture, and the other is Jojos Bizarre Adventure. Not much difference between the two except “venture” has a survival mode while “bizarre” has more characters to choose from.
The game by and large is not going to blow any hardcore gamers away, but it can be a fun and humorous alternative to more complex fighters.
There are better fighters out there for the same price as this one, so only go for this game if you are a diehard fighting fan and feel the need to have as many as possible or a first time player, otherwise you might feel upset over your buy if you are used to the likes of Street Fighter and Fatal Fury.

What can I say? This game is a bit off-kilter and rather off-the-wall, but it’s still practically fun. The graphics reek of brilliant detail. The soundtrack is incredible. The characters are very unique, as expected from the fascinating manga the game comes from. But, I reflect it’s the gameplay that tends to make things get a small crazy. I reflect it’s a cross between Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and the Marvel sports meeting. The “Stand” system is the sports meeting bread-and-butter, but it can also be very constricting, as you only have 3 attack buttons, and they are a weak, medium, and strong attacks. Then again, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is the same way, and, like this game, is very obscure with its references. But, that doesn’t take away from its solid gameplay. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for a change of pace in fighting sports meeting.

Jojo’s bizzare adventure is a very weird game. the bordering thing I can reflect of that even remotely is similiar to this is darkstalkers (also made by capcom I believe) the controls are hard to get a hold of, especially on the dreamcast controller, and the graphics are not up to the machines capabilities. (In fact the graphics are very similar to those used on the saturn version of darkstalkers.) the play istelf is quite limited, combos and special moves are hard to pull off, although they are amusing at some times. The horrible quality of the japanese dub (japanese dub is better!) makes the game even more enjoyable and makes you feel like you are playing an import game. all together, the package scores about a 3.3.
