For the casual user wanting a decent arcade stick for fighting sports meeting, classic sports meeting, sports meeting without need for analog control or the second stick, etc., it’s the resolution best deal you’re gonna find.
For people that want to be awesome at SF4, Soul Cal, etc., the stick just isn’t exact enough. You can hear a rolling sound when you barely go the stick–it doens’t connect to any of the directions, but still has a bit of play. It generally feels loose, and although each management feels ok (similar to the HORI cheap arcade stick; the one w/o official arcade parts– also kind of like the cheaper of the 2 madcatz SF4 sticks). Each management clicks pretty loudly, and it’s 4 management, not 8 (diagonals aren’t AWFUL, but aren’t even close to a real Sanwa Stick) I also find the button layout slightly over-bent, but I have mammoth hands, and to the firewood credit, I reflect this design works better given the compact size.
Also, unlike the HORI stick, PCs don’t recognize it. It’s seen by a PC as a PS3 controller, which means the same irritating workarounds must be taken to use it with a PC. It can be done, but takes work and googling, and the process must be redone every time.
For SF4 battles, it certainly beats a PS3 controller. Once Sony decides to be nice and share their Controller whateveritscalled file with the world, this will become more useful. It’d be splendid to be able to easily use it with mame.
By and large, a solid stick and a unusual buy–just be prepared to deal with a loose, overly clicky-loud control stick.
