Well, I’ve only had time to make it to the second level so far, but here’s my depression of Hellboy: Science of Evil so far. I am a huge Hellboy fan, so I like the game more for the fund material than an average gamer would. The game looks pretty excellent, not super splendid, and the controls are pretty excellent. It has an autosave feature with many save points throughout the game, so it’s pretty simple to pick up and play if you only have a few minutes. Tale has been a bit vague so far, but I reflect it will pick up from other reviews I’ve read. It is not based off the new Hellboy 2 movie; it has a unique plot line more based off the comics, which I like. A unique adventure adds more to the character than just replaying the movie you just saw. The characters look like a mix between the comics and movie versions, and the movie actors reprise their roles for the game. I have not played multi-player yet, but there are apparently 3 characters, looks like 1 may be unlockable or something. Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien, and “Classified,” voiced by Bruce Campbell. Since I’ve heard Bruce is a potential actor to described Lobster Johnson if they place him in a Hellboy movie, I am betting that’s who “Classified” is. Using Hellboy’s gun, the Samaritan, is a huge clumsy as far as picking targets. It’s pretty simple to change ammo types, though, and ammo is readily available for the most part. It’s simple to tear up the environment and used debris as clubs or projectiles. There doesn’t seem to be an upgradeable combat system, although there are several combos you have available. Heath renaissance is not a conundrum – either you place a finishing go on a small enemy or the game just gives it to you when you make it owing to a checkpoint. Camera controls something like God of War, and the right analog stick lets you adjust your aim manually. There is not dodge control, but then again, that doesn’t seem to be Hellboy’s stylishness – he just takes the punishment and dishes it right back out. I bought it the day it came out, and it came with a free voucher to Hellboy 2. The cover had a small circle in black and white on the lower right hand corner saying so. Would have much preferred it been a sticker on the plastic wrapper, but oh well. I read someone compare the game to a Evil Dead game, and I agree. Definetely worth playing if you are a Hellboy fan, but maybe just a rental if you like brawler sports meeting. Definetely not a major let down movie game, like Iron Man, just a small disappointing when you reflect of how splendid it really could have been. I can’t wait to fight a Kriegaffe (cybernetically enhanced bodyguard apes)!

This is a excellent game, its fun, amusing, and action packed with splendid graphics. Its a brawler and there’s plenty to admire in this game. Fun all the way.

I like comic books and delight in it when I see them leap to the huge screen. Of course, I delight in it even more when they transition over to a video game platform as well. The distress with sports meeting that tie-in with movie releases is that there usually not splendid sports meeting to delight in and only end up being mediocre. Some end up being down right dreadful and completely frustrating.
I am always pretty lenient with video sports meeting reviews and despite the fact that some sports meeting really deserve three or three and a half stars. I’ll end up giving four stars out of generosity, but Hellboy was a bit of a letdown. My only real complaint is the camera angle and control.
Nearly every game these days has the ability to rotate the camera 360 degree with the 2nd analog stick. This is such an vital feature. But, this is not the case with Hellboy. The camera is always at one point of a view in this game and does change based on what you’re doing, but it doesn’t let you control it. If you are going inside a building it will zoom in a bit closer, but you can’t control that zoom. It just happens when it wants to. We all know Hellboy involves the supernatural and supernatural things usually happen at night, so the majority of the game all takes place when the sun is down which results in a dark creepy atmosphere. Considering how dark every level is, everything happens at night, and the fact you can’t control the camera only makes seeing Hellboy and the villains in the game a bit more complicated. Also, some of the objectives for each level are very unclear as well. I guess the only way to change this is to turn up the light setting on your TV, so you can see where Hellboy and the villains are on screen.
In the first level you have to defeat the witch, who just happens to be flying above in the sky. The camera is set a ¾ overview. Kinda like Zelda back in the Super Nintendo days, so you can’t really see where she is. The instructions on screen in fact tell you to throw the goblins that she throws at you, back at her. It’s kinda complicated to do so when you can’t see her and you can’t control the camera in order to see her.
That is my only real grievance with this game. Other than that, the visuals are very pretty and I found the game to not be at the point where it was so horrific that it was unplayable. It’s doable for the price of being under twenty bucks, but I really did expect a lot more.

If you’re a huge Hellboy fan this game could be what you’re looking for, otherwise you probably won’t find this particular game worthwhile. The game play itself is challenging, but not in a satisfying Mega Man 2 kind of way. Instead you spend most of your time fighting with the poor game design than anything. Like I said, if you’re a huge fan of the Hellboy universe, you’d probably be willing to overlook this sports meeting many flaws, but if you’re just looking for an action adventure game, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
