Product Description
The islands are in peril! Years ago, a powerful earthquake struck the Sunshine Islands. In Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands, it’s up to the player to raise the sunken islands by finding the magical Sun Stones. Raise the islands to meet new characters, harvest new crops, and befriend animals such as ducks, monkeys, and badgers. In Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands, players retort all of the beloved characters from Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, and get to meet a number of new friends as well. Players will grow and harvest crops, care for animals, mine, fish, and compete in festivals in their quest to restore the Sunshine Islands to their former glory. With a small luck, they may even find right like and start a family by the side of the way.

I bought probably all the Harvest Moon entries after the original DS and DS-Cute, including the Wii and PSP platform offerings and the Rune Factory sports meeting. I didn’t play any of them for more than a day or two because I didn’t like the graphics or controls or tale line. I tend to measure all HM sports meeting against the DS and Cute versions.
That said, Sunshine Islands has kept my interest for several days. But there are things about it that guide me nuts. Worst: Giving gifts to residents is VERY likely to result in littering, because several of the residents are nearly never still — they walk in erratic paths and it’s hard to give them a gift without dropping it, the costliest faux pas in HM sports meeting. (I despise that HM sports meeting won’t let you just pick up what you drop, instead of immediately penalizing you as though you with intent littered.) Reduction the game first for safety, and getting back to where you were, requires NINE separate stylus taps, which is ridiculous. I’m in the Fall of the game’s first year, and there are still several residents who won’t even accept gifts from me yet (yes, they refuse your gifts at first), probably because of my accidental littering. The consequences aren’t just social — by giving these gifts, you gather Sun Stones that are vital to unlocking islands that are the only places you can mine, grow fruit or grains, etc.
The rucksack in this game works better than in DS & Cute. Having 4 equip slots is nice, and moving stuff within your rucksack (as in, separating large piles of one item into smaller piles) is a lot simpler. But: If you gather several of one item, each one goes to a separate slot in the sack. If you’re gathering a lot of things, you will soon have to stop, open the rucksack, and combine all your fish/grasses/flowers/mushrooms/etc. Only your weeds and your wood and stone blocks will stack themselves. Buying the larger rucksack helps a small but you’ll still get annoyed. There also seems to be a lot less goodies to gather in this game. Forget having a huge stash of flowers or wild berries at the end of a season in this game, it’s not gonna happen.
Farming’s also hard in this game. Some crops need more or less sun and water, and most crops seem to take much longer to mature. You must run out and consult a resident to get the next day’s weather — impossible on festival days when everyone’s gone. And the way the graphics described some of the growing plants (tomatoes are worst, so far), the plant obscures the square you’re trying to water, and it becomes impossible to see if you’ve watered a square or not once the vegetation a certain size. Cooking is also much more hard.
I will probably go back and play DS or Cute for the tenth time, and hope they fix the flaws that makes Sunshine Islands more of a chore than a game and re-release this.

When I first heard that a new Harvest Moon game was coming to the DS, I was determined to buy it. After buying this game, I have not regret for one moment buying it.
This is definetly the most advanced HM game on the market, with specific “water points” and “sun points” for not only crops, but grains and trees too! There are even more animals involved this time too with cat, pig, badgers, sparrows, rabbits, ducks, mice and monkeys to name some of them.
The tool upgrade is a bit of a pain since you need to use “wonderfuls” which are very rare, and can only be won in festivals, and after many (game) years of work, made by yourself.
The romantic prospects are a plenty in this game, both for female and male players.
For those who liked the mining system in previous HM sports meeting will like this one with lots of challenging floors (255 floors to be exact) to explore.
A huge tips for players, both experienced and newbies: BUY THE STRATEGY GUIDE. I will pretty much say it is a “must have” to manage to play this game, and have fun with it (sadly, but right)
This game is without doubt a 5 out of 5 in my book, and a must buy for HM lovers and time managment / simulation fans!
Excellent luck, and pleased farming!

Incredible game, can’t place it down, easily the deepest and most entertaining Harvest Moon so far. Like the DS, like this game!

“Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands” is much more challenging than the former “Island of Happiness” game. This is because I sense a lot of structure in the game. The game’s weather patterns are set a week ahead, so it’s hard to cheat, making it honest to others.
Still, there’s not a whole lot of tedious work, since your crops don’t need a lot of water. Although you will have to work up to a higher experience level in which to take better quality items to make more cash, so it’s not as simple and random as “Island of Happiness.”
The game forces you to work in all areas of the game mining, fishing, cooking, farming, and gathering to be able to go on in other areas. For example, you will need minerals in the mining area to make a machine that converts milk into cheese(which you can sell for more cash)! The game’s different aspects all mesh together in this way, making a feeling of accomplishment. Besides that, you’ll be trying new things in the game!
This game is extremely enjoyable for a mellow player like me, but is not recommended for people who demand action from video sports meeting.
