Gundam: Journey to Jaburo
Amazon.com Review
Followers of the enormous Tokyo pop franchise that is Gundam will probably get their kicks from its first appearance on the PS2. But, the game’s many terrible design issues will keep this giant robot blaster from moving its appeal from cult phenom status to mainstream hit.
The action takes place during Gundam’s legendary One Year War. For Gundam neophytes, there’s plenty of cinemas and social class info to help get you up to alacrity. Sadly, controlling your top-of-the-line mech is frustrating because of clumsy controls. While it’s simple to pound stationary targets, mobile enemies are disturbingly hard to keep targeted. Also, hand-to-hand combat is both dull and cumbersome.
The graphics, while not spectacular (the explosion effects are cool), do a decent job of rendering large battlefields, and the mechs look similar to their toy counterparts. The full-motion video cutscenes are nice enough to keep die-hards playing, if only to see how the tale moves by the side of.
For Gundam fanatics, changeable Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo is a decent time waster that lets you live the war you already like. For everyone else, though, this is a mediocre blaster that shows us that the definitive mech game has yet to arrive on the PS2. –Mark Brooks
Pros:
- Gundam finally comes to the PS2
- Decent graphics deliver the look of the cartoons and toys
- Plenty of social class info and small cutscenes for initiating newbies to the Gundam universe
Cons:
- Painfully frustrating, complex, and inaccurate controls
- Hand-to-hand mech combat is bland and slow

Well, this sure was something I expected. Most sports meeting based on Gundam [are usually terrible], and this is no exception. It is one horrible game. Graphics are horrible, but the worst is the control. I diden’t reflect controls for mechs got too much worse then Armored Core. This is worse. The only honourble mention is the sound, which is very right to gundam. But this game is very right to gundam sports meeting; …

This game was rather poorly constructed with graphics hardly worthy of the PS2 console, awkward controls, and it’s stunning simplicity. The only reason i rated it 2 stars was the cut scenes were ok. as an original gundam fan, i don’t recommend this game for any but the hardcore gundam fans, and even then, mostly for the cut scenes and parts from original series. don’t expect much from the gameplay. BEWARE!!!!!
