I brought Guild Wars as my online RPG replacement after leaving world of warcraft. Guild wars and WoW are two completely different sports meeting with the only similarity being the point and click interface and the social class music so I won’t compare them. My review is based Soley on Guild Wars as a game. I brought the Trilogy because it was 3 sports meeting for the price of one, and you get some special bonus features like weapons and henchmen. I loved the first game. It had a perplexing tale which strayed from the original plot but the game held your attention. I found it irritating at first because you fight mobs and mobs of scorpions, then you advance from there to fighting mobs of goons. I wasn’t used to the game play of Guild Wars of fighting mobs of 10+ goons at a time, so I got a bit annoyed with it. It’s hard to explore in the game because you’ll run into mob after mob all the time. The basic approach of the game is being able to fight 10+ goons at a time. If you can do that effectively you can beat the game.
Prophecies didn’t take to long to end and honestly I don’t remember much about it. I liked it because it was new and different for me but the tale was easily forgetable and not very fascinating. Yeah there’s cut scenes but not anything incredible to anyone that plays console sports meeting.
After I beat Prophecies I jumped right into factions. I didn’t have to much to say about team play in the first game because I solo’d just about the entire game with my henchmen minus a mission or two. In factions it is nearly imperative that you play with actual players.This is when I realized just how terrible the community of the game was. Comming from WoW I was used to playing with a lot of grown-up and mature players, but the Guild Wars community is mostly 3rd-10th graders. So you can expect a lot of immaturity when grouping with other players. Factions is a pretty hideous game after you leave the starter islands. The main areas are mainly unatractive ghettos. It was nearly depressing because it lacked quality music and visuals. I couldn’t wait to beat Factions to get the eye sore over with. What I did like about it was the PVP battles between the Kurzick and Luxon factions, but Guild Wars PVP takes a long time to get used to not to mention the fighting controls are not the best. The main play of the game gets stale since it’s just mob after mob just like the last game it becomes a chore. Couldn’t get into the design, tale was ok but not very fascinating, new classes made it somewhat fun, but the game is over quick.
Nightfall by far all I have heard is how hard it is. This game seems that Guild wars went back to the gorgeous landscape. There is a rich fill of culture here. The missions are a bit different and the quest… well lets say they seem to come straight from warcraft. As soon as I read kill X of this and go get X of that. I turned it off! Those were the exact reasons I left warcraft, and I pretty much was burnt out from that type of work. I only got the feeling that developers were trying to capture a WoWish vibe in Guild Wars. All I can say is if your going to make a PVE game stick to your own creativity. I pretty much bunged playing the game right there.
By and large Guild wars is a fun thrill but the uninteresting tale line, repetitive game play, and irritating community really make this one worth skipping. If you find it for cheap cool pick it up, but it’s novelty isn’t worth the price.

It was a birthday gift for my daughter and she likes it. Her and her husband both delight in playing this game. Sometimes my handsome grandson helps them too!

Guild Wars, ive been a player since Christmas 2008
It is pretty much endless were other sports meeting have failed this one takes the cake because it is not about what level you are but about your skills you choose, were other sports meeting failed is they based strength and ability off of how many levels you have completed with your character, guild wars makes it so you can team up with players of the same interest and this may take you some time to find your group me i went owing to probably 35 guilds over a cycle of 6 months before i found one i felt comfortable with, but also as you play the tale line you are offered to link a set of 2 skill sets together to make your character unique and within those 2 skill sets you are offered any number of skills to work with and build on to make your weapons and arsenal to fight with and if that is not enough you collect gold on your quests and in the larger cities owing to out the world at any given time thousands of other players are online allowing you to trade gold for better weapons that will work with your skills you have chosen the game is pretty much endless with options

It has been around forever, I started 2 years back myself. For the cash, this game will defiantly entertain. I recommend buying GW right up until 8 months before the GW2 release date is posted. For now, GW2 release date is unknown, and 8 months is plenty of time to build a honest toon and get your moneys worth in play time. Don’t hesitate.
Oh, if you are in it to PvP don’t bother, rank discrimination is terrible, and people are just way too salty to help you.
I only recommend you play for the PvE experience. Hardly anyone discriminates based on rank in PvE, and most everyone seems willing to help another out.

So, a few months ago I chose to look for an alternative to WoW. I was seeing a girl at the time who played Guild Wars, and I questioned if I could see how the game worked on her computer. Well, after seeing it, I chose to pick up the trilogy… and I loved it! I soon selected up the expansion, Eye of the North, and the Bonus Missions Pack. I also recommended it to one of my friends who is equally immersed in this game, if not more. It took months to end the Prophecies campaign, and now my friend and I are effective on Factions. Really worth it… especially since it doesn’t have a monthly subscription fee!
