Galaga
Amazon.com Review
We never fancied that a company could mess up a game like Galaga, but it’s happened. While Q-Bert and Frogger 2 had to be considered flourishing remakes, Galaga is anything but, and will leave players searching for the black-and-white Galaga redux version that came out for Game Boy years ago.
On the clear side, this Galaga is in affect–it adds four backgrounds in place of the once starry black night. The game also offers up larger ships and enemies, but this ends up changing the game by allowing fewer foes onscreen at once. The result is an simple 24 levels, in which enemies glide in the same basic patterns. Once players get ahold of these flight formations, all challenge flies out the door–as does any interest that one might have had in playing the game.
Even hard-core retrogamers should stay away from this one. It’s not the same as the original, and it won’t test players’ finger dexterity. Luckily, there are better versions of Galaga floating around for those who are willing to seek them out. –Robb Guido
Pros:
- Bears a slight resemblance to the original
Cons:
- Too dull and simple

I am very disappointed in this game! I really *like* Galaga, so when I saw this game in the stores, I immediately snatched it up. Huge mistake! While the social class graphics are kind of cool, they really are very distracting and make seeing the “aliens” hard. Perhaps that was the thought…the game is sooooo simple that they had to make something in it hard!
How simple is this game? I sat down for the first time with it yesterday, and made it to the second to the last screen of the game in my first play. Bummer. Seriously, save your cash, don’t get this game!!

I’ve had the original Namco Galaga/Galaxian Game Boy cartridge for quite a while, and it’s one of my favorite sports meeting on this platform. I was curious about the new Galaga and selected it up… thankfully, I didn’t spend *too* much cash on it. The new Game Boy Galaga is a staggering disappointment. There is nearly no challenge to it, with more time having been spent on the scrolling social class graphics than on actual game play. The original Galaga cartridge demands a lot of the player. This new edition only demands that you stay wide awake (hey, sometimes it’s hard!). The Playstation/PC version will certainly be much better than this, so save your cash and wait for that one.
