I’M ACTUALLY OLDER 13, BUT I COULDN’T GET THE NORMAL REVIEW DEALIE TO WORK. THIS GAME IS A GOOD BEAT ‘EM UP BUT IT IS VERY SHORT. LUCKILY, AFTER BEATING STORY MODE, YOU UNLOCK ADDITIONAL MODES WITH MORE CHARACTERS. THE CONTROLS ARE A BIT SCREWY (YOU HAVE TO USE THE TOUCH SCREEN TO USE ALCHEMY, AND A LOT OF FACE BUTTONS REMAIN UNUSED) BUT IF YOU CAN HOLD A STYLUS AND YOUR DS AT THE SAME TIME IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. THE CHARACTERS (WARNING: SPOILERS OF CHARACTERS AND UNLOCKABLES) EDWARD, ALPHONSE, IZUMI, MUSTANG, ARMSTRONG, AND SCAR ALL HAVE UNIQUE ABILITIES, AND AFTER YOU PROGRESS THROUGH STORY AND CHARACTER MODE YOU UNLOCK THE ALCHEMY BOOKS BELONGING TO EACH CHARACTER. ANYONE CAN USE ANYONE ELSE’S ALCHEMY BOOK ONCE UNLOCKED, BUT THEY CAN ONLY CHARGE UP ALCHEMY ATTACKS THAT AREN’T THEIR OWN TO THE SECOND LEVEL (ALCHEMY ATTACKS USE UP ENERGY GAINED BY BEATING ENEMIES OR BREAKING BARRELS. AS YOU HOLD DOWN THE ALCHEMY ATTACK ICON ON THE TOUCH SCREEN, IT GATHERS MORE POWER AND USES MORE ENERGY. THE FIRST LEVEL USES NONE, THE SECOND USES SOME, AND THE THIRD USES A LOT IN ADDTION TO BEING INCREDIBLY POWERFUL AND HAVING A COOL ANIME STYLE CUTSCENE). YOU CAN ALSO UNLOCK 2 BONUS ALCHEMY BOOKS (KIMBLEE AND MARCOH. SPOILERS END HERE.)OVERALL, THIS GAME WILL BE ENJOYABLE TO FANS OF THE SERIES, BUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER PREVIOUSLY HEARD OF IT MAY NOT ENJOY IT AS MUCH.

If your a fan of the anime fullmetal alchemist then get this game if not you will not know what happens in the game and should not get it but i am a huge fan of the anime fullmetal alchemist and had to get this game. It is one of the best sports meeting i have ever played.

Not a huge fan of anime, I didn’t know what to expect of the game to be completely honest with you. I just thought anime spin-offs on console sports meeting always turned out decent.
FMA is mediocre at best. Once again, I ventured to an EB Sports meeting and saw it on the shelves, and saw that my pool lacked this title. The cover looked splendid, so I bought it… at $29.99. I really need to stop doing that.
I have no thought how the tale goes, so it was entirely new to me. That in itself is one of the few pluses that this game gets from me. The graphics are nice too, nearly like reading a comic book on your DS.
But there it is, reading a comic book on your DS. That’s what the game felt like to me. I doubt that my statistics are entirely accurate, but if you play the game, you’ll know what I mean. The game seriously feels like it’s 80% tale, 20% gameplay. The balance is horrible, and halfway owing to the game, I gave up reading the text and found myself constantly critical the A button to rush up and get owing to it.
The movements are entirely analog, so when the need for the stylus arrives (when you have to inscribe the alchemy symbols), it’s unwisely inconvenient, irritating, and awkward. Yeah, it’s a cool function I guess, and they had to integrate the touch screen somehow. But they manage to make a poorly made game even worse by having you scramble for your stylus to pull off the symbol inscriptions in time.
I guess I expected more, mainly because of how much I paid for it.
Once again, price indicatorrrrrrrrr. $29.99 early retail, now approximately 17 bucks according to Amazon.com. Don’t be surprised if it cascade more, as this will easily be a forgotten title in the long line of DS game production.

Fullmetal Alchemist : Dual Sympathy DS is in essence an active version of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime. Fans of the show will like it – but people new to the world might become quite lost.
The gameplay is in essence a fighting game with some magic thrown in, wrapped up by a VERY dialogue intensive storyline. The main characters are a pair of brothers, one with metal parts, the other in a full robot body. They run into a series of terrible guys that they need to take on. In each case as they go from room to room they tend to have to end off all the terrible guys they see before the room “releases” and allows them to go by the side of to the next area. Huge “GO” arrows help to guide the way.
The magic is often in the form of puzzles. Use parapet to get over spikes. Use guns to take down enemies. You need to figure out which combination of spells will get you past the contemporary obstacle.
I’m not religious, but religious people might have a conundrum with some of the dialogue, where the characters are ridiculing God and saying their science makes them God like creatures.
Also, a part of what they say just makes no sense at all. I don’t mean in a “suspension of disbelief” manner but in an actual “sentence A does not lead to sentence B” way.
Still, cartoons are not really meant to be evaluated seriously. They present an fascinating world, give us some fun thoughts to ponder over, and show how characters learn and grow over time.
If I look at this game from the view of an anime fan who likes the series, the dialogue gets a bit excessive compared with gameplay. It scrolls by VERY at a snail’s pace, and clicking doesn’t help much. You are stuck … reading … at … a … snail’s … pace … which drives me insane. They should have been able to handle that better.
And even given the really slow dialogue, the game itself is moderately small. So they nearly were trying to beef out the game’s length by talking really at a snail’s pace.
I’ll give it a 4/5 for avid game fans. They really should have gotten more gameplay and less tedious exposition.
