Brand New and Sealed PS2 Game. Backed by a 45-day guarantee.Amazon.com Review
Each installment of the Final Fantasy series has featured strong storytelling, characterization, and strategic combat, fun minigames, and hours upon hours of attractive gameplay. The 10th title in the series is no exception. This is the first time a Final Fantasy game has appeared on the PlayStation2, and it takes full advantage of the increased technical capabilities.
The tale this time concerns Tidus, a blond-haired star of a sport called Blitzball. While he is playing in a match, Tidus’s city is attacked by an evil force called Sin, and everything is ruined save Tidus and his guardian Auran. The adventure starts as the pair are somehow transported to another world. From here on, it’s standard Final Fantasy gameplay: fight battles, manage experience points, learn new powers, and recruit a motley crew of nonplayer characters to join your quest.
The graphics, but, take things to a new level. They are incredible not only for their realism, but also for their imaginative art design. The world these heroes inhabit is breathtakingly gorgeous, flowing, and full of inventive surprises. You haven’t lived until you’ve surfed cables high in the air, or ridden a graceful airship owing to the clouds. The stunning effects are on show when you use magic in combat, summon gigantic monsters, and use fire columns to devastate your foes.
One new element is voice acting. The innovation yields predictably mixed results: it’s wonderful to hear spoken dialogue rather than read subtitles, but as with most sports meeting translated from Japanese, the acting is mediocre and sometimes unintentionally hilarious.
Still, the game’s new graphics engine and solid gameplay are sure to please fans of the series waiting to see what Square has in store for them. While Final Fantasy X doesn’t offer much innovation, it also doesn’t disappoint. And fortunately, with Final Fantasy XI already in development, the title is still a misnomer. –Andrew S. Bub
Pros:
- Gorgeous graphics

Final Fantasy X is the first title in this landmark RPG series to be released for the PlayStation2. The main characters are Tidus, a star of blitzball (a hugely well loved sport in the Final Fantasy universe), and Yuna, who has learned the art of summoning and controlling aeons, powerful spirits of yore. These two people of different backgrounds must work together as they journey owing to the world of Spira. This installment of Final Fantasy has a distinctly Asian influence, bringing a fresh feel to the characters, music, settings, and tale.
Features include voice-overs for the first time in the series (utilizing the Facial Motion System), high-polygon, motion-captured player characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura, and a camera that automatically adjusts its perspective to correspond with the movements of the characters–a feature now possible because the game is largely polygonal.

You would reflect, people would get tired of chocobos and magic… etc… The game is a lot like the others, use magic to defeat a enemy no matter what, its all the same to me.

While the graphics are excellent among the best on PS2 the game itself is long, tedious, and dull. Not the way video sports meeting should be made. What Squaresoft should do is stop making Final Fantasy a video game and instead continue making movies of it that flop, or books that no one will buy.
In closing, save your cash for a decent game or buy this game and take ruin it in some creative way.

This game is the worst game for the Playstation 2. They should follow the sequels in order. They released Final Fantasy 9, and now they go to Final Fantasy X? What ever happened to Final Fantasy 10? The numbers don’t match! That’s not right. Second of all, how do you attack? I don’t know the buttons. The cut scenes are cool, but the guy does not respond to my controller movements during them. This is unfair because I want to go the player. The character, Tidus, whines too much. She is certainly not a loveable character. But, the ending makes up for everything, when Wakka gets killed by Tidus. Justice is served. The game should be free. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Super Mario Brothers, the first one, with the same sound and graphics quality.

Well, well…another one from Squaresoft. Seems like they’ve really been taking extreme, hit-or-miss approaches to this series lately and 10, the lastest in the series, is no exception.
After playing the demo, I was quite impressed with the graphical advances that the PS2 has to offer. People are rendered in real time with incredible facial detail, backgrounds are works of art and movement is nearly as fluid as real life. Yet, these are the high points, as I found the rest of the features far less appealing, if not down right irritating.
Voice acting in this game is completely unnecesary and uncalled for. The voices are terribly done and really distract from the gameplay. Characters also speak when completely unnecessary, such as in battle situations, making comments here and there. Square would have done better to leave them out. Just because the technology allows it, doesn’t mean that you should use it.
I found the main character to be a bit irratating. Tidus, is a young, goofy, blond, uneducated… beach boy who seems out of place in this game. I really hope that his character grows up over the course of the game. I like the more realistic characters, yet I’m not real sure how I feel about Tetsuya Nomura’s designs though…reminds of a terrible cross between The Bouncer and FF: The Spirits Within (both disappointments). I despise the way Tidus runs on the map.
The battle system is nice and charming, although quite a change from the previous FF sports meeting. Despite its tactical cheapness, switching in characters during a battle in fact appeals to me. I’m hoping that the weapon system is different than FF VIII’s. I’m already disappointed by the fact that balls and dolls are used as weapons…..so messy.
What happened to the overworld?! It just doesn’t seem like Final Fantasy without an overworld. Square must have a new way for us to hunt for secret items. Piloting an airship is going to be weird without this feature, but Square has done well like this before (Secret of Mana).
Uematsu, among others, return for the musical score to FF X. I wasn’t really impressed with anything, other than the battle theme (it’s a nice upbeat and catchy theme), but this is the demo we’re talking about here. I despised the demo for FF VIII and then finished in fact liking the game, despite it’s many flaws.
I have a feeling that the tale is either going to make or break this game because the technology involved just isn’t enough to make a excellent RPG these days. (Square, that’s a hint)
Judging from what I’ve seen, I’ll give this one a chance, but for you ancient school FF fans, the radical changes are going to be a shock, some of which you probably aren’t going to like. What can I say, things always evolve, whether it is for better or worse. This game is impressive, but the first depression just doesn’t drop my jaw like FF VII did when it was first released.

Ok, first of all, Final Fantasy X looked really really cool. I mean, when I looked at the previews and the characters and the TITLE, I thought that it would be a kind of adventurous, fantasy, game……but it dissapointed me! When the screen poped up with all these kids meeting around a fire {I didn’t know what that was all about} it was kinda’ eerie. And the voice of that Tidus boy is kinda’ amusing. I mean, the boy, Tidus, is very excellent looking and if he were real I would fall in like with him, but his voice does not match his character. Second of all, what is with the giggling girls? OHHH, they are so irritating, I just want to hit them with the stupid ball! And what the heck is up with the fighting system? I mean the whole time you just sit there and hit the button ATTACK over and over again! Man I thought it would be some real fighting like in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or even like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time {which is my ultimate favorite game}, but no let’s just tap the X button over and over so the computer can attack it for us and then we can just stand there and get hit. I mean, man I would slice the heck out the monster or “Sin” or no matter what it is! I am a video gamer who likes to in fact play the game and in fact fight rather than tap an attack button, watch a ten minute scene, watch girls giggle and watch a boy who can’t fight like LINK. If you are a huge fan of swordfights, going to faraway villages, solving puzzles, and in fact using the sword yourself I suggest that you do not get Final Fantasy X {instead I suggest Kingdom Hearts if you like adventure and Disney}. The graphics were cool, but Kingdom Hearts and Ape Escape 2 has way better graphics than this game. I hold high respect for those who like this game and I hope you have fun tapping the X button. Don’t get me incorrect I had to get this out.
