EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 4 is truly the return of the champ. Building off Fight Night Round 3, one of the best-selling and most analytically acclaimed sports meeting to come out at the onset of the PlayStation 3 hardware launch, Fight Night Round 4 promises to be equally as groundbreaking and revolutionary. With an all new physics based fighting engine, new physics driven animations, truly unique and differentiated boxer styles, and the most impressive boxer roster ever, including the return of the legendary Iron Mike Tyson, EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 4 takes video game boxing and fighting to an entirely new level.
New Physics Engine As in real boxing, where height and reach have advantages and disadvantages depending on your opponent and your skill, Fight Night Round 4 forces players to use their fighters’ physical characteristics and styles to their advantage, or suffer the consequences. these consequences come by way of fighters ability to now fight effectively in close, as well as from a space. For example, shorter fighters are often quicker than taller opponents and tend to do better on the inside against taller fighters, but they must get inside first. If they choose to fight at a space, the advantage is lost. Similarly, height and the assumed longer reach that goes with it is a significant advantage, but only if a fighter “fights tall,” that is stand up straight and utilizes the jab and other punches to keep up the optimal space to from opponent that allows him to hit and not be hit in return. Droop and/or abandon the jab, and the reach advantage is lost. New Heads Up Show Adds Blocking Ability In addition to the traditional Heads Up Show (HUD), which has always provided Fight Night players with a visual representation of the changing shape and stamina or their fighters, Fight Night Round 4 adds blocking to its HUD. Designed to both grant an ongoing way to monitor your fighter’s ability to defend himself when not punching and facilitate action during rounds by encouraging players to develop additional defensive and offensive skills, blocking is yet another realistic addition introduced by Fight Night Round 4. When players lose the ability to block punches they can not avoid punches thrown by opponents and must go on the offensive or take the punches. Blocking ability, as well as shape and stamina can be replenished between rounds by assigning points accumulated for action in the ring to any of the three physical states/abilities. Roster of Fighters Fight Night Round 4 features a large roster of fighters from multiple eras and weight classes. Made up of more than 40 fighters this elite group provides players with the ability to not only find again past and contemporary rivalries, but to also make new ones across time to solve the question of who is really the greatest of all time. Just a few of the fighters that players can expect to take into the ring include: Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Roy Jones Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Lennox Lewis, Sugar Ray Leonard, Winky Wright, Eddie Chambers, Ricky Hatton, James Toney. I’ll write a more in-depth review later. For now, I have to mention the game looks GREAT! I’ve just gotten the game and already there’s a new go I can do that Round 3 boxers couldn’t.
But, a MAJOR thing that SUCKS for me in this game is that there is absolutely NO option to have the Controller configeration to be for the buttons. Yep, I’m a button masher.
I’ve played all the Fight Night Sports meeting and let me tell you, I win most of my fights. Button mashing does work despite what Round 3 tries telling you.
I HATE the total punch control of these sports meeting. More often than not, I find myself throwing a punch that I visibly did not throw. Button mashing is far more accurate and this game, so far, has lost major points for not allowing me to do what I wish with button mashing.
DOes that mean I’m going to give the game back and get a refund? Not quite yet. I’ll give this LAME total punch control a try. I reflect it’d only be honest if I did. Like they say, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
But, I highly doubt I’ll like it. So, I will probably turn this game back in for my refund and say, “Thanks EA Sports for putting out a much anticipated game that doesn’t include the button mashing option for my controller. Not everyone likes the total punch control system. Button mashers, like myself, need to have this option. You’ve just lost a customer”
See ya.

I am a HUGH Fight night round 3 fan and have played for hours and hours online, for years now. I could not wait for the new round of this series to come out though out the year. Now that the day is here I am Extremely Disappointed! They have taken away the punch button option and you can now only use the analog stick. I can honestly say FNR3 is one of my favorite sports meeting but the controls for FNR4 are horrible and in my opinion they’ve ruined the series.

This game was very poorly designed, executed, and plainy flawed in very aspect of gameplay.

This is a splendid game don’t get me incorrect… The graphics are sweet the punches are fluid. The upgrades from the last game are splendid… But the controls were a risky go. Not being able to have the option to switch controls to buttons sucks. I play with the buttons and the the stick but I no longer have that option… I reflect I’ll go UFC or wait for Tekken 6 although those 2 very different sports meeting from Fight Night they grant a better fighting experience for the GAMERS NEED

Fight night round 4 may be the most anticipated game of the year but it’s a huge disappointment for the fight night round 3 fans. Not because they have taken away the buttons but the actual game play suffers, it’s like I’m playing face breaker or a really different franchise of game altogether. The graphics take away the seriousness of feeling like you’re in a real fight (Facebreaker again) you have to use the analog stick to throw all the punches, and it’s real hard to go to the body in this game. Yes there are new boxers in the game such as Tommy Morrison, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, George, Foreman, Eddie Chambers just to name a few in the heavyweight division but every fighter selected I could not tell the difference in stylishness. All you will recognize is the Height and reach advantages. The only excellent thing about this game is the music and the fact it allows you to upload your own personal picture to play as yourself online or against the computer but even that does not make this game exciting! and yanking that Analog stick all the time does get irritating as sometimes you try to throw a hook and you end up throwing a uppercut instead. The game play is no different then the demo, so if you did not like the demo you certainly wont like the game. It’s safe to say Fight Night round 4 really does suck!
