I’ve bought and played the medieval II and the empire and while the empire game is a system hog it really runs pretty well. The steam issue, while irritating, is really overblown, it runs just fine. They’ve added some fascinating new layers to the game.

I have never reviewed anything I buy here on amazon. But the Bashing and 2 star scores EVERY Pc game is just demorilizing!
Creative Assembly spent years developing this game and it is loads of fun!
I have played all Total War sports meeting since Shogun and this is the best iteration, hand down.
All TW sports meeting have been released with bugs and flaws but patches and mods have ironed out the kinks and turned every TW game into a hit!Empire is no exeption.Less then a week after release, CA has issued a patch and in a press release they state another one will be coming next week.
The thing with DRM that really boils my blood is that people bitch and moan consantly about something the developer has no control over!! By not purchasing the game JUST because of Steam ,(which is a splendid service, more on that later), you are destroying our unique gaming platform.
People who go around on amazon reviewing PC sports meeting that have DRM without playing the actual game are destroying PC gaming more than the Piraters!
CA could have released a much more forward DRM such as securom but they chose Steam, which is NOT spyware, DOES NOT require internet access to play everytime (ONLY ON INSTALL PEOPLE) and if you are reading this, then you have internet access! (If not, bop on down to the local computer shop and install the game there)
But Steam is a splendid service, you can download full sports meeting, you can install the game HOWEVER many times you want on HOWEVER MANY Pc’s you want! (Steam also has splendid Deals! (Bioshock for 5 bucks??, S.T.A.L.K.E.R for 5 smackers?? whats not to like??)
Buuuut now about the game.
This game is simply incredible, with 40 factions to cooperate with, there is alotta stuff to do! And yes, only 12 of the factions are playable but those 12 factions will keep you busy! And CA is probably going ot release patches to unlock more factions.
The Campaign Map has more detail then ever and the Tech tree offers a new aspect that has not been covered in previous TW titles.
The Land battles are Incredible! 18th century tactics must be used to win and large battles with 3000+ men are astounding to watch, the sound is also stellar, The crack of a musket barrage with the drums beating really sets the tone for this era of combat.
I could Go on and on, but you have probably read the proffesional sites review and they are absolutly right.
(Though they do say naval battles are dissapointing, I reflect this feature is either loved or Meh, I reflect they are quite fun but not centerpiece of the game)
But all in all, This game is definetly worth your cash and I reccomend to to TW veterans or people new to the series.
Cheers

Contrary to many of the 1 star reviews, I am very impressed with this game and like the fact that I can run it owing to Steam. I have been using Steam for all my sports meeting for quite a while and have become a huge fan of it. Many companies have said they will not even make sports meeting exclusively for the PC any more since they have lost too much cash owing to piracy, so I dont hold responsible them for at least trying Steam. If you in fact give Steam a try, you may find you like it more than you reflect you would have otherwise. It really is a very excellent game tool.
As far as a review for the game, it really is an amazing game, and one I think was well worth the wait. I wont be able to do the game justice with a personal review, so for a great review go here –> [...]
