I received my DSi Screen Protective Filter and Stylus Kit this afternoon, and keenly went to apply it. I haven’t used the stylus on my DSi yet for dread of scratching the screen before the kit came in, so I was excited to finally be able to play with the DSi. This kit is a piece of junk! Besides the obvious issues of dust particles getting in the way during installation, the bottom touch pad protector scratched after one use, using the stylus that came with the product! I immediately ripped off the screen protector to make sure that it hadn’t hurt the DSi screen, which thankfully it hadn’t. Why would a company include a stylus that so easily hurt the screen protector? I have the DS Lite, with a similar screen protector and there have never been any visible scratches. Needless to say I’m very surprised at the lack of quality in the product which now sits in the bottom of my trash bin. I’d give zero stars if I could, for wasting my time and cash.

I have used many excellent screen protectors. These are not excellent.
The major conundrum is that once you stick them on, they are a huge pain to lift. Scotch tape does NOTHING. I had to use packaging tape to lift the protectors, which is a headache since the tape is really too strong for this purpose. A excellent screen protector, like the one I use on my iPhone, lifts up with ease using just plain scotch tape. After trying to clean the top screen off for about 10 minutes without success, I just tossed it in the trash. It wasn’t worth the hassle. The touch screen protector useful honestly decently, so I’ve left that on there for now.
I gave it 2 stars for the stylus, which is a nice product. Way better than the cramp-inducing standard stylus. It alone is worth the price, but it’s a bring shame on that the protectors are so mediocre.

I got my screen protector from a video gaming website and they carry original HORI harvest from Japan. I got a lot of accessories for my new Dsi from this website. They are all splendid and prices are very reasonable. The screen protector is awesome. It comes with a clean cloth before you can apply protecting films on the Dsi. Although the instruction is written in Japanese, you can still figure out by reading pictures. It’s a small bit tough to apply those two films. First, the red affect sticker film is for upper screen and the white is for bottom screen. The film is protected by two thicker clear plastics: up and down. After clean the screen, you will remove the bottom plastic and keep the upper plastic attached with the film. Then you want to aim the film on the screen precisely by seeing the actual video on size not screen size corner by corner. Next, you apply the film at a snail’s pace and at the same time you will use fingers to rub out the air. Finally, you can remove the upper plastic. Walaah, you have the flim attached on the screen nicely.

We have bought Hori Screen protectors in the past and have always been pleased with how simple they were to apply and how well they lasted. This time was different. These did not go on smoothly in the least. I plot to replace these as soon as possible. The best part about the kit was the stylus. It is exact to hold and a nice change from the smaller stylus that is included with the DSi.

I’m here to buy a second set of this screen shield/stylus combo pack because I like the stylus. No, it’s not compact and it doesn’t fit into the stylus slot on the game unit but that’s a excellent thing. The stylus is shorter than the average pen but it’s about as wide as one and the rubber finger grip makes it very secure and comfortable to hold. Even after using it for hours, it doesn’t cause my fingers to cramp or my wrist to ache. Maybe younger players who haven’t had nearly half a century of wear and tear on their hands won’t have a conundrum with the skinny small stylus that comes with the DSs but for those of us who have the mileage, this larger, thicker, squishy-gripped stylus is a godsend for the hand. As luck would have it, I can squeeze this ‘oversized’ stylus into my DSi’s wallet case between the unit and the cover so when the flap is snapped down, the stylus is held quite nicely and snugly in place so storage isn’t an issue for me. It also has a hole at the top which you could most likely use to glue it to a lanyard around the neck or to the back of the DSi unit using some kind of lightweight tether. There’s also a pen-stylishness clip which you can use to glue it to your shirt pocket (or shirt neck, as I do.)
The protective filters do the job and, with a bit of care and effort — and patience — are really not hard to install. A bit tedious, perhaps, but not hard. Between the directions provided with the kit and the suggestions made by others here, application is not a huge issue unless you’re effective in a dusty environment, are all thumbs, or need a small less caffeine in your diet. Yes, the filters do scratch with use but the manufacturer never claimed they wouldn’t. They are scratch resistant, NOT scratch-proof. Mine has a couple of harsh scratches and though they do bug me a small, they do not interfere with the viewing or use except to catch my eye when the light hits it just so. I would recommend wiping the filter AND the tip of your stylus clear of dust and dirt before you use your DSi (a microfiber cloth comes in handy for this.) I suspect that’s what happened with my filter. Probably a tiny speck of dirt was on either the tip of the stylus or the filter so I finished up inadvertently scraping the dirt speck across the filter — but better the filter than my DSi’s screen! Considering that I’ve beaten on the filter with countless hours of sometimes aggressive gameplay, I can’t and won’t complain. Even if I replace the filter a few times a year, I consider that cheap insurance.
By the way, I have used plastic cleaner/polish on the touch-screen filter by applying a small amount to a soft cloth and then using it on the touch-screen filter. It seems to help give my somewhat worn filter a small extra life. Because I reflect the offending dirt particle may have also place a tiny scratch into the tip of the stylus, I’ve also used the trick of rubbing the tip on wax paper. The effect wears of somewhat quickly but it does help the stylus go more smoothly across the filtered screen. By repeatedly rubbing the stylus tip firmly over a charming surface, I seem to have finally worn the burr off but I still keep a bit of wax paper handy to give the stylus tip a bit of a polish. Again, I suggest wiping the stylus tip and the filter clean before use so you don’t end up with tiny but harsh scratches caused by dirt particles. Dust? No conundrum. Dirt? Those miniscule, hard, sharp-edged specks can be an issue. Hey, but wouldn’t you prefer to scratch an inexpensive, consumable filter and stylus over gouging the touch screen of your expensive DSi?
So, why only four stars instead of five? Because I reflect filters are over-priced. I suspect the packaging probably cost as much to make as the filters themselves. Nevertheless, they’re still WAY cheaper than replacing my DSi.
