| From BioWare, the makers of Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Ancient Republic, and Baldur’s Gate comes Dragon Age: Origins. An epic tale of violence, lust, and betrayal, Dragon Age: Origins is a release player role-playing game (RPG) set in a fantasy game environment, and featuring three playable character classes, accessible in the form of three races. In addition, the game features extreme character customization, a new game engine, party-based gameplay utilizing non-player characters and a built-in personal history system for each hero character rooted in a variety of possible origin tales.
Tale Gameplay Dragon Age: Origins is a release player game based on party-based gameplay and combat where the player can join, control and quest with up to three non-player characters (NPCs). Players can also quest alone if they so choose, but with the chance of survival are slim. Convincing NPCs to join you, and treating them well may be necessary depending on the varying sentiments between the player and the NPC, or between the NPC’s in the party based on the chosen history written into the origin tale accepted at the beginning of the game. This uncertainty allows for a variety of possible dynamics within the party ranging from open hostility, all the way to romance. The game progresses in real-time via a pause-and-play tactical combat system that allows the player to check inventory levels, equip a character, etc. in a slight vacuum. Additional features found in the game include: a combination of a standard loot system and a currency system based on gold silver and copper; advanced character customization functionality; the use of poison, traps and herbalism; dual-wielding skills; and “spell combos,” which allow players to chain together different spells to make a unique effects. In small this game blows. I don’t know where they get off selling it for $45. I bought mine from steam so now that I know the game sucks I can’t even sell it because I don’t have a physical copy.
The game is slow, dull and cumbersome. You can’t walk over or owing to any thing. You even get stuck behind other people. The game mechanics are horrible. You have to click on every enemy you want to fight. Your toon does not auto target ever. If you heal one of your party members you have to click on an enemy and then click on a spell to attack again and half the time you have to do this at least twice for the game to recognize your command.
Also your toon can be customized a lot before starting the game but whats the point? It’s not a multie player so why agonize about what your toon looks like. Not like your going to run into any one else who looks like you because it’s release player.
This game looks splendid in the trailer but game play sucks. I would return mine of I could but again I bought mine directly from steam.
I changed my stars to one just so you RPG kids can have some thing to complain about. But seriously this game is trash.

Slow and dull, yet fascinating. Too much movie and conversation for my taste. Rather disappointing. It is hard to control the characters. Also, I cannot get the bonus codes entered.

This game reminds me of a mix of Baldur’s Gate and Nothingness. The graphics are quite excellent considering the third party view point but the UI is really hard to get used to. Too much click in five places to get something to happen – you can pause the game at any point while doing this but it’s still very cumbersome and takes away a lot of the enjoyment. My largest complaint is that the other party members tend to stand around doing not anything. I’ve tried everything but the PC group members are complete retards. It should be trivial to say ‘attack this until it’s dead’ but they stop attacking after a few seconds or if the foe moves away. They won’t even follow me, I have to keep right clicking to get the to come to me. Now maybe I’ve missed something in the UI that would make them act brightly but it’s my review and I don’t like this game. Plus I paid too much for it
OK So I just figured out I must have hit the “H” key by accident.
Anyhow this is still a poor game with excellent graphics.
1. There are too many area transitions and they take too long.
2. There are too many loooooong dull conversations and set pieces.
3. The quests are poorly clarified and too many of them are bugged (like abandoned orphanage).
4. Intermediate quest points are not indicated on map or when you mouse over them so you’re expected to memorize all 40 active quests?
5. No free movement between places of interest (Nothingness got that right)
6. Anvil of the void quest is bugged (party members bunged responding) – happens other places too (no I didn’t press H)
7. Difference in difficulty between trash mobs and bosses is way too splendid.
8. Fight with Loghain is too long w/o opportunity to save.
9. Mage keeps going loony and thinks she’s a tank.
10.Mage won’t use mana potions even though it’s in her tactics.
I could go on but you get the point. Game depends too much on graphics and not enough on excellent game play. This can’t hold a candle to Nothingness.

After many hours tring to make this game play I have come to belive Bioware has no quality control. I have updated video driver, direct x, sound card, and a couple of others, still game doesn’t do anything other than crash. This is just to much distress to play a game in my off time. Too terrible I bought it online, other wise I take back to store.

Degraded archive files on the CD that shipped, so game wouldn’t install. Checking the web, this seems to be a common conundrum. Returning this game.
